CategoryThe lilies in this book have been divided into threecategories namely for cut flower production, potproduction and for use in garden and park. However,depending the desired plant height, also some shortstemmed cut lilies could be used as a pot plant.Furthermore we have to point out that, next to the liliesindicated as suitable as a garden plant, most of the liliesfrom the other two categories also can be used for thispurpose.

GroupBy means of new breeding techniques it is now possibleto make crosses between already existing lily groups.Positive characteristics of each group can be linkedtogether. Now, beside the Asiatic, Oriental, Longiflorum, Speciesand Species hybrids the following groups have beenbred.LA = Longiflorum x Asiatic hybrids OT = Oriental x Trumpet hybridsLO = Longiflorum x Oriental hybridsOA = Oriental x Asiatic hybrids

CultivarThe range of cultivars listed is based on the official areafigures for lily bulbs grown in the Netherlands. Thecriteria for including the cultivars were a minimum areaof 1 ha or fast to 1 ha extending cultivars. Forinformation about the availability of the cultivars it isneeded to contact your supplier.®This symbol is used here to denote that the production

of and trade in this product, as well as the use of thisproduct’s cultivar name, may be limited or prohibited.

Plant heightThe height of the plants, measured at the cutting stagefrom the soil to the upper edge of the florescence, isgiven in centimetres measured for Asiatic, Longiflorumand LA hybrid bulbs planted in the Netherlands duringspring and grown at an average greenhouse temperatureof 14 - 16°C. For Oriental, LO and OA hybrids atemperature of 15 - 17°C has been used. Species andSpecies hybrids are grown and measured out site. Theheight may differ depending, among other things, onbulb size, temperature, light and cultural practices.

Growing periodThe growing period, counted from the time of plantinguntil harvest, is given in weeks and based on bulbsplanted under circumstances as previously indicated.The growing period may differ from the data givendepending, among other things, on bulb size, plantingperiod, temperature and cultural practices.

Edibulb codeThe Edibulb code (Electronic Data Interchange) is usedin the distribution chain in the Netherlands to identifythe cultivar by number. A more extensive description ofthe cultivars can be found at the website of the KAVB(Royal General Bulb Growers Association) www.kavb.nl

Page numberThis number can be found in the summary of all lilycultivars and their characteristics and indicates thenumber of the page where the photograph of the cultivarcan be found.

Number of buds per bulb sizeThe number of buds that can be expected for eachcultivar is given per bulb size. Again these are based onbulbs planted under circumstances as previouslyindicated. The number may vary depending on factorssuch as planting period, light, temperature andcultivation practices.

All information provided here is based on observationsmade under Dutch climate and growing conditions andmostly given by the breeders of the listed cultivars.

KategorieIn diesem Buch sind die Lilien in drei Kategorienunterteilt, nämlich Lilien für den Schnittblumenanbau,den Topfpflanzenanbau und für die Verwendung imGarten oder Park. Es ist anzumerken, dass je nachgewünschter Pflanzenhöhe auch eine Reihe von kurzenSchnittlilien für den Topfpflanzenanbau verwendetwerden können.Wir müssen Sie außerdem darauf hinweisen, dass außerden für die Gartenbepflanzung angegebenen Lilien diemeisten Lilien der anderen beiden Kategorien ebenfallsfür diesen Zweck geeignet sind.

PflanzenhöheDie Pflanzenhöhe, gemessen zum Zeitpunkt desErntestadiums vom Substrat bis Oberseite Blütenstand,ist in Zentimetern angegeben. Die Messung fand beieiner Frühjahrspflanzung in den Niederlanden statt. DieAsiatischen, Longiflorum und LA-Hybriden wurdengezüchtet bei einer mittleren Gewächshaustemperaturvon 14 – 16 °C, bei den Orientalischen, LO- und OA-Hybriden wurde eine Gewächshaustemperatur von 15 –17 °C angehalten. Species und Species-Hybriden wurdenim Freien angebaut und gemessen. Die Pflanzenhöhekann variieren, je nach unter anderem Temperatur,Zwiebelgröße, Lichtbedingungen und Anbauweise.

AnbauperiodeDie Anbauperiode, gemessen vom Zeitpunkt derPflanzung bis zur Ernte, ist in Wochen angegeben undbasiert auf Zwiebeln, gepflanzt unter Umständen wieoben angegeben. Die Dauer der Anbauperiode kann vonder angegebenen Wochenzahl abweichen, je nach unteranderem der Zwiebelgröße, Pflanzzeitpunkt,Anbauweise und Temperatur.

Edibulb CodeDer Edibulb Code (Electronic Data Interchange) ist einHandelscode oder eine identische Kulturvarietäten-Nummer, die beim Kauf und Verkauf vonBlumenzwiebeln in den Niederlanden benutzt wird.
