Sunyani:

Like a Mighty Thunder... Bobo-Dioulasso:

Entering Uncharted Territory

Bobo-Dioulasso1 – 4 December, 2016

Great Gospel Campaign and Fire ConferenceBobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso

Bobo-Dioulasso is the second largest city of the sparsely populated country Burkina Faso (called Upper Volta until 1984), with its northern

region reaching into the Sahel zone.

Traditional religions and ancestor worship still play a significantly greater role here than in other African nations. It is estimated that about

40% of Burkinans worship spirits and ancestors and practice animism.

The meetings were broadcast via two radio stations to the whole region. As the population is mainly Muslim, many who were not able

to come to the services could hear the Gospel via radio. The employees of the radio stations reported that they were overwhelmed with the amount of calls from their audience. Those who called reported many wonderful healings and new commitments to Jesus.

Entering Uncharted TerritorySometimes CfaN goes into regions where people are familiar with churches or evangelistic meetings. When we go into such an environment, the Campaign can feel like a big church service. Everyone knows how to behave and respond. But in other places it becomes obvious that we have entered an area almost untouched by the Gospel – uncharted territory. Under certain circumstances this can be quite challenging, as was the case in Bobo-Dioulasso. A large num-ber of those who attended the meetings were Muslims, animists or followers of tribal religions. But even many Christians in attendance seemed like they were experiencing one of our “Holy Spirit Services” for the first time, remaining observing but not participating.

The first night in particular was a great spiritual challenge. In an e-mail, Daniel Kolenda asked his friends, supporters and intercessors to pray for a breakthrough in Bobo-Dioulasso. And it came…

As this region is still mostly saturated by superstition and witchcraft, fear of demonic influences and curses is a strong component of the local culture. One of the main rivers crossing the country is said to be the residence of a certain demonic deity that is worshipped in the form of a large fish. After Daniel had preached about the power of the blood of Jesus, he announced that he would break all curses and bondages in the region and country through prayer. The name of the false river god was on the list, and was openly proclaimed in spite of some concerns. There was fear of possible attacks even among the pastors. But the prayer turned into a moment of true liberation and joy. Christians and non-Christians were able to see that we are not afraid, “as we are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ!”

During the week the situation increasingly changed. With the end of the last meeting, it had turned into a “Holy Spirit Party.” People were overjoyed. They were dancing and shouting because they had seen, heard and experi-enced amazing things. The power of God undeniably touched many people – and the whole region.

Become like children…

Something wonderful happened on the second night. A little girl, around four or five years of age, had swallowed a large coin about one month earlier. When she did not pass the coin after a few days, her mother took her to the doctor who could not help her. During prayer that night, she suddenly spit out the coin. The mother took her to the stage to testify. Daniel then continued to tell the people that Jesus loves the little children and promises them the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 19:14). Then he asked to see if there were any children in the crowd: “How many small children are here tonight?” Almost everyone lifted their hands. It seems they understood what Jesus said: “Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3).

As the CfaN team arrived in the city, the governor, the mayor and the traditional Muslim king invited

them to several receptions. All three welcomed our team and were happy about our arrival. The governor also attended the first meeting and sat on the stage.

This man, who had been blind in both eyes for three years, received his eyesight.

This woman testified that she had had a growth in her breast, which immediately disap-peared during prayer along with all the pain.

This elderly “Mama,” who had not been able to stand without her crutches, can now walk again. Daniel was dancing on the stage with her.

This Muslim woman had suffered from asthma and stomach pain for 15 years. On stage she joyfully testified that Jesus had healed her. Just

as she was leaving the stage, Daniel saw that she held the booklet “Now That You Are Saved” in her hand. So he asked her if she had also gotten saved that night. And she responded: “Yes!” This is the greatest

miracle – finding eternal life in Christ Jesus. It is a miracle that many thousands experienced in Bobo-Dioulasso.

This lady reported that she had listened to the meetings via radio. She had been suffering from severe pain in her chest for days, and thought she would die. But when Daniel prayed for the sick on the field, she stretched forth her hand in faith and touched the radio. In that moment the power of God hit her and all pain disappeared. She has had no pain since then.

For six years, this girl had been suffering from the after-effects of meningitis and not spoken one word. On the third night, as Daniel prayed for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, he asked the crowd to sing “Hallelujah.” Then he changed the words to “Thank you Jesus” with the same melody. All of a sudden, the mother realized that her daughter was singing along: “Merci Jésus.” She was totally healed, and can now speak perfectly!

The final decision card count resulted in 94,010 documented decisions for Jesus Christ. Our follow-up system, adopted by the local churches, will ensure that these new believers get added to the local churches.

Like a Mighty ThunderWhen the CfaN team arrived in Sunyani, the air felt electric. Local Christians were full of joyful expectancy. Everywhere the team came, the people, media, local admin-istration and traditional king received them with great joy. Local pastors reported that they had never seen a true spiritual revival in Sunyani, and that they were expecting the beginning of a great move of God that week. And that is exactly what happened.

As Daniel preached, he sensed that the audience was taking in every single word – they were hungry and ready to receive. When he invited people to receive Jesus as their Savior, the response was breathtaking.

It sounded like a mighty thunder as they repeated the prayer of salvation in faith.

The very first evening, a blind man was healed spontaneously on his way home af-ter the meeting. The news spread and more and more people came to the services to see for themselves.

The spiritual dynamics over the entire week were impressive, climaxing in the final meet-ing – where 220,000 people attended. This is quite remarkable considering that the city itself has fewer than 250,000 inhabitants. It seemed as if the whole region stood on the field that night.

Great Gospel Campaign and Fire ConferenceSunyani, Ghana

Sunyani is a regional metropole in rural Ghana. The city is growing rapidly and has already incorporated some former

suburbs. It is located in a vast cultivation area for cocoa and cashew nuts.

People in Sunyani decided to follow Jesus Christ and filled in a decision card.

This lady reported that she had an eye disease that would eventually make her blind. She had to take medication for her eyes daily, and visit a doctor at the hospital once a month. She came to the meet-ing and received prayer. The next day her monthly doctor’s appointment was due. But once the doctor had examined her, he told her she no longer had to come back. She had been completely healed.

This man had been paralyzed on his left side after a stroke. But on Thursday the Lord healed him!

This man testified on the third day. He used to be an armed robber who had been saved during one of our earlier Campaigns in Ghana. He was still suf-fering from injuries to his leg and neck from his days as a criminal. But here in Sunyani Jesus completely healed him. He is a merciful God!

This man who former-ly needed crutches

to walk was dancing across the stage.

This lady had been healed from an injury to her spinal cord. She was able to throw away her back brace as the audience responded with great joy.

Previously this man could not stand or move around without his walker. But Jesus healed him during the Campaign.
