Star Beacon, November 2017 Lights on the Lake — 3
Ashtabula County’s Lights on the Lake Committee is pleased and excited to present you with the 2017 festival of lights, sights and memorable beauty at Lake Shore Park. In its 12th year, the event has become a family tradition for many families. The committee works all year long to expand and improve the festival.
As in the years past you will be greeted by friendly committee members and volunteers who again this year will be distributing goody bags to the first 3,000 visitors. These bags contain information about Ashtabula County, area businesses, along with some valuable cou-pons which can be used at some of these businesses.
The committee thanks everyone involved for helping in any way, whether it is sponsoring a display, donating money, volunteering time and energy, or helping to promote the event. If you’re interested in being a part of this exciting event please do not hesitate to contact us. We always need help to grow and expand.
Ashtabula County’s Lights on the Lake is a non-profit, tax exempt, 501(c)(3) corpora-tion and its committee members all volunteer their time to make this festival of lights an exciting experience for the entire family. Funds generated are used to build and improve the festival. A portion of this years proceeds will go to an Ashtabula County 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Enjoy the event, and may it bring smiles of joy to you and your family!Happy Holidays from Ashtabula County’s Lights on the Lake Committee!

Star Beacon, November 2017 Lights on the Lake — 5
Now synonymous with the holiday season, Ashtabula County’s Lights on the Lake is a treasured family tradition at Lake Shore Park.
Commemorating its eleventh year, the Lights on the Lake Committee celebrates the season in 2017 with additions to its beloved scenes and many displays.
“If you came to Lights on the Lake a few years ago, come back,” said Rick Coblitz, President for the Lights on the Lake Committee. “We’ve changed to LED lighting on all our displays.”
Just five days to go until the Yuletide switch-on event at Lake Shore Park. The lights illuminate at 6 p.m. Friday and will continue to twinkle from 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday follow-ing Thanksgiving through the end of the year. The lights schedule is slightly different this year because of the timing of the holidays, so there will be limited hours on Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Years Eve. We will be open but with limited hours (6-8 p.m.).
The Lights on the Lake Committee worked hard to create another unfor-gettable holiday memory for visitors. The drive-through light display along Lake Erie features a Wizard of Oz display, toys, elves, Santa, candy canes, poinsettias, dinosaurs, snow-men, a nativity scene and more.
The committee is a nonprofit group consisting of 11 volunteers: Rick Coblitz, president; Bud Hill, vice president; Christine Seuffert; secre-tary; Dr. Alfred DeCato, treasurer;
Ryan Cochran, project coordinator; committee members, Kathy Brewer, Gail Millard, Brian Van Allen, Anna Stolfer, Kathy Presciano. and John Steel.
Several of the displays also orig-inated right here in northeast Ohio. For example, the covered bridge, the fishing boat, the historic Ashtabula harbor lift bridge and the flying sau-cer, which is reminiscent of the flying saucer gas station that once stood at Five Points, all bring a hometown feeling to the festive show.
As spectators ride through Lights on the Lake, they will see the 25-foot-tall Christmas tree with a shiny star on top. They can tune their vehicle’s radio to 105.5 WGOJ-FM to hear holiday music as they enjoy the beauty of thousands of colorful, twinkling lights on the park’s bountiful evergreens and rolling hills.
The Lights on the Lake Committee worked hard to expand the attraction throughout the 12 years, and yet, maintain the event’s original price: $5 per carload. If you buy your ticket ahead of time, you are entered into a drawing for $500 when you come through the park.
“The displays are designed so every year we can add on,” DeCato said. “I especially like the LED-lit Christmas tree.”
All the displays are LED in an effort to go green,” Coblitz said. “Last year people were really impressed with the ‘pop’ of the LEDs.”
There are about 80 displays throughout the park — something for
all ages. Last year, the most popular display was the waterfall.
It takes 30 volunteers about five weekends to set up all the displays.
“Some displays are as big as a truck,” Coblitz said.
Ashtabula County’s Lights on the Lake has several events and activ-ities planned for the 2017 season and the committee encourages area residents to participate, especially in their “Help Your Neighbor Night,” set for Dec. 8, 9 and 10. The committee will be collecting non-perishable food items to be distributed to Ashtabula County food pantries. Bring canned goods to Lake Shore Park.
For updated information on Lights on the Lake’s events, go to the attraction’s updated Web site: www.aclotl.com.

Bella Care Hospice is
pleased to announce
ACMC physician
Abdul Shahed, MD, as our new Medical Director
Person-CenteredApproach to Care
Our Hospice develops a plan of
care for each patient based on
their specifi c needs, and
customizes each patient’s
experience in order to provide
the best end-of-life care possible.
Family Involvement
Bella Care Hospice doesn’t just
care for the patient, we also care
for the patient’s family and
caregivers. In hospice care,
“family” is defi ned as whoever
the patient says it is. Hospice
is not meant to replace the
family, but rather to provide
additional support and care.
Celebrate Life
Celebrate Life is truly as unique
as each individual. We look to
enhance care by celebrating a
patient’s life journey through a
person-centered, holistic
approach. Some examples of
Celebrate life events include:
• Attending a grandchild’s wedding
• Special outings to sporting events
and concerts
• Honoring special hobbies, pets,
quilting, cheerleading, etc.
• Reuniting family members and close
friends
