3 Point Lighting
• Standard used for film making
• Key Light
• Fill Light
• Back Light or Rim Light

Key Lighting• Used as main source of light
• If you have only one light this is the one
• Try bouncers to reflect more light
• Set to the right and forward of camera with a 35% – 45% angle
Fill Light
• Used to fill shadows
• Should be softer light
• Dimmer than key light to avoid washout
• Set to left of camera and half way between subject and camera
Back Light• Small and focused light
• Used to separate subject from the background
• Behind subject, set higher than key light
• Directed at the subject shoulders and head
• Watch for lens flare
Bounce Cards, Reflectors &
Diffusers• Can solve lighting problems
• Avoid bouncing or reflecting into eyes
• Watch heat from lights
• Can use many common objects
Economical Solutions
• Set narrow PVC into plaster
• Use dowels with hooks or eyes
• Picture wire or heavy floral wire
• Gold or Silver fabrics
• Metallic Paints
• Old frames and canvases
• Rain ponchos
• Old lamps
Sound Advice
• 75% of Video is Audio
• Be aware of your surroundings
• Run a sound check
