In early 2016, St John of God partnered with Lighthouse.io to pilot a mobile messaging and asset tracking solution powered by beacon technology at Murdoch Hospital in Perth, Australia.
The objectives included:
1. Improve the speed and effectiveness of traditional paging communications 2. Reduce operating procedure wait times through faster locating of equipment 3. Improve doctor utilisation through faster locating of patients 4. Reduce operating costs through better utilisation of resources 5. Better understand patient wait times and flows through the hospital
THE SAVINGS OPPORTUNITY
• Approximately $2,500 p/hour to run an operating theatre
• Each staff member spends at least 15 minutes p/day looking for equipment while theatre waits
• If we can reduce this to 5 minutes p/day across 40 staff it equates to a cost saving of $16,666 p/day at a single hospital

HOW IT WORKS
RESULTS
The pilot is still in progress however initial results looks promising. The messaging function improved the speed and context of requests for staff and initial data shows that time to locate equipment has reduced significantly. The
client has indicated that they would like to explore a broader roll out of the technology.

BLE beacons
Devices that broadcast signals using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
Smartphones that are nearby listen for these signals and deliver content and experiences.
