Suggestion number one ndash study
Nah Just kidding Well to start off you can do something you love like playing a sport picking up an activity or a course you always fancied volunteering for a good cause or spending time pursuing new hobbies or interests
To succeed make sure that there are no distractions around you so that it will be easier to fully enjoy the day
Another way would be to spend some of your free time doing certain things you always have no time for For instance you could spend more time with your family You might have been busy with your work or been occupied and in turn have neglected your family
You can also help out with the household chores entertain your family through games chats or doing activities that you and your family would enjoy All you have to do is to spend your time productively and you are on your way to have fun
How to become a Singaporean in a jiffy (Part 1)
By Koh Zi Wei and Chia Li Tin
So you have migrated from your country or have come
to Singapore to further your studies Have you ever
wondered ldquoCan I fit inrdquo or ldquoHow do I act like a
Singaporeanrdquo
This is the article for you We will explore every nook
and cranny of a Singaporeanrsquos lifestyle and collate this
information into a series of articles just for you
Firstly as Singaporeans the most important factor is to
have the three lsquokiarsquo which means scared Some of you
might be wondering what we mean by scared Allow me
to clear your perplexity The three lsquokiasrsquo are lsquokiasursquo
lsquokiasirsquo lsquokiaborsquo which mean lsquoscared to losersquo lsquoscared to
diersquo and lsquoscared to not haversquo respectively
Finally lsquokiaborsquo literally means lsquoscared to not haversquo This is something
similar to lsquokiasursquo except lsquokiasursquo means one must try to win and have
everything This is probably one of the reasons why wersquore lsquokiasursquo as
we are afraid we might not be able to attain something we desire for
You probably realise by now that the three lsquokiasrsquo are interrelated
Stay tuned for our second installment in this series of articles Yoursquoll
surely fit in as a Singaporean in no time
rsquoTa Paorsquo means to take your own lunchboxes to contain any excess leftovers
Being lsquoscared to losersquo or being lsquokiasu is to strive to be first in any situation Letrsquos say the Great Singapore Sale is on
Singaporeans would wake up early in the morning or maybe even queue overnight at the venue just to purchase
discounted items
Next would be lsquokiasirsquo as in wersquore lsquoscared to diersquo Some of you right now may be wondering ldquoWho isnrsquot afraid to dierdquo
Well in Singapore this has a slightly different meaning It has a similar meaning to lsquoafraid of troublersquo but not quite
that either Let me explain Imagine your friend decides to pull a prank on a teacher or a classmate Your friend would
not consider the consequences beforehand Once your friend is found out naturally the teacher would expect an
apology Only then will the offender start to feel fear and try to avoid interrogation That is to say they lsquochicken outrsquo
they are afraid of the punishment and do not have the courage to face the music
Leadership through
Role-Modeling By Yong Xuan
A Vice-Chairperson of a class was caught
recently climbing the school gate It happened
on Friday 5th of April at about 130 pm
Eyewitnesses from this Vice-Chairpersonrsquos
class who wanted to remain anonymous have
testified that this was not the only rule that the
Vice-Chairperson has broken He has been
eating in class and encouraging classmates to
do likewise
A Student Councillor from his class had told
him not to eat in class but the Vice-
Chairperson did not heed the Councillorrsquos
advice Instead he continued to eat
provocatively in front of the Councillor Then
the Vice-Chairperson started to run around the
class and made the Councillor run after him
A leader is always watched by others The
leaderrsquos actions are always scrutinised The
leader needs to be of impeccable standing
with a good solid reputation A leader is a role
model
Angel-Mortal Game By Faarisha and Stella Suseno
More than a term has passed Are you still having
difficulties getting along with your classmates
Does the topic of class bonding often come up
during Form Teacher period Does the period
often end with still no ideas on how to improve
your class spirit
Heres a way You can play the Angel-Mortal
game What is it If you know what a Secret Santa
is then you are somewhat familiar already It can
be played by the whole class for as long as you
want but if youre starting out try one week First
you will need to draw lots containing names of
your classmate The person that you draw will be
your mortal and you are that mortals angel You
will also be the mortal of someone else who is
your angel
You can take care of your mortal by buying small
gifts like candy or stationery writing notes to him
her and so on Its up to you You should never let
your mortal know that you are hisher angel This
is the exciting part You must think of creative
ways to ensure your mortal does not find out it is
you even if it means lying right through your teeth
You may also be receiving gifts from your own
angel during the game After one week or
whenever the game is over you will reveal
yourself to him her and you will also find out who
your angel is too
By playing this game you will know more about
your mortals preferences Your mortal in turn will
know how sweet you are This game might sound
very simple but it really enhances the class-spirit
and it is a game filled with suspense and fun if
everyone plays Your mortal will be very happy if
you give him her something By secretly seeing
your mortal smiling at your gift you will also feel
happy because you managed to bring a smile to
your mortals face
A good leader doesnrsquot mislead or exploit
This Month in History By Ilyatunnisa bte Shaik Mohammad Iqbal
On May 2 2011 the US Special Operations Forces killed Osama bin
Laden during a raid on his secret compound in Abbottabad Pakistan It
was the end of a decade-long manhunt for the leader of the Al-Qaeda
terrorist organisation
He was the alleged perpetrator who had ordered the coordinated aerial
attacks of September 11th 2001 The tragic incident involved four
American passenger jets in which two were hijacked and deliberately
crashed into the now infamous 110-story Twin Towers of the World
Trade Centre in New York killing nearly three thousand people Another
jet struck the Pentagon building in Washington DC The last one was
headed toward Washington as well and crashed into a field in
Pennsylvania
Why History By Mrs Yasmin Messoussi
Letrsquos start with just 3 simple reasons why you should be paying more attention in History lessons
Love Bites By Jayne Lim (3E3)
I stepped into the busy bookstore and
looked around I spotted Ek standing by the
astronomy shelf I would usually go up to
him and say ldquoHirdquo but after everything that
had happened I did not know if I should
Still my instincts told me to talk to him
Mustering my courage I walked up
behind Ek As I reached out a hand to tap
his shoulder he spun around The second
he saw that it was me the book in his hand
fell to the floor with a loud distracting thud I
bent down to pick it up for him
ldquoThanks Bellerdquo Ek smiled I could tell
he never expected to see me but I never
thought he would even acknowledge me
ldquoAnytime Ekrdquo I went with a casual
reply and slowly we plunged into a
conversation as if nothing had ever torn us
apart until he took interest in the book I was
holding
ldquoLove Bitesrdquo Ek read the title out loud
I felt my cheeks burn remembering
the cold truth Ek felt the tension as well
because an awkward silence then ensued I
quickly shoved the book back onto the shelf
next to me embarrassed
Yearning Hearts By Anonymous
dedicated to Ian Lim Zi Yang
As I look into your eyes
I see an angel in disguise
Just like heaven in the skies
You take my breath away
Leaving me mesmerized everyday
Youre the first to enter my heart
A blazing flame that wont burn out
The only key to unlock this emotion
Of our never ending love connection
Only hoping youll admit too
The three words only for you
I LOVE YOU ndash cant you tell I NEED YOU ndash forever from now
Emotions Ive fought
Escaping this thought
Please fulfil my wish
And
Be mine
A In my opinion you just have to take a short break as it seems like you are really stressed
Take a deep breath
Now I have been through it too and every student in Singapore has to and they all feel the
same as you You just have to take it in your stride and be positive There are many reasons
why CCAs are still around in our educational system To name just a few CCAs promote the
whole-development of a child They are there to help you relief stress pick up interpersonal
and intrapersonal skills pick up a hobby and instil discipline and commitments CCAs are
platforms for students to exercise autonomy and develop values
As for air-conditioning well some activities cannot be carried out in such a setting such as
sports or uniformed groups as being in a cool place has health implications on onersquos health Itrsquos
been scientifically-proven that if one were to sweat in an air-conditioned room the sweat would
actually dry on onersquos skin leaving dark spots on onersquos face You wouldnrsquot want that would you
Honey half the battle is won with the right attitude You need to view school more positively as
a place where fun takes place alongside learning new things When life gives you lemon why
not make some lemonade Right now your only obligation is schooling Life only gets harder
so toughen up now and develop resilience and positive thinking Yoursquoll need both as an adult
to have a school-life balance and juggle the many responsibilities you will need to shoulder
Q Sometimes I feel very stressed because of schoolwork CCA and everything related
to school I hate school especially the CCAs I hate having external instructors and
being in venues without any air conditioning Life is just torture over here What should
I do - Restless in SG
A problem shared is a problem halved
Write to us for a chance to get your worries off your chest
If you are having difficulties with friendship family or
school help is at hand
Problem
Q I like a boy and that boy likes me too but both of us dare not confess We are in
Secondary One So what do we do - Desperately in love
A It is perfectly normal for such emotions to arise at this age However what is best is to not
get into a relationship right now You hear everyone telling you your studies are crucial and
they are right Your studies determine your future and if you were successful in life there will
be a single file of boys vying for your attention
Hence you could keep in touch with this boy but not too closely Stay as friends and once you
both become more mature if you both still feel the same for each other then go ahead with
your plans
This book is exhilarating punchy and includes much of the issues that we
teenagers face now Itrsquos a fantastic book and I highly recommend it It isnrsquot too
short or too long Itrsquos not even too hard to read This will keep you occupied for
many days and nights and when you finish youll want to read it all over again
Expect late nights pouring over this amazing book James Bond eat your heart
out
He chooses the lesser of the two evils and soon finds himself on the fast track to becoming a spy trained in martial arts marksmanship sabotage and many other skills that probably werenrsquot included in James Bond movies After completing his basic training this young hotshot is heading for his first ever mission to prevent a terrorist attack Soon he finds out that spying is not all prestige and glamour Despite the difficulties however he waltzes through the mission earning him a promotion And through all the exhilaration and stress a surprise awaits him
Book Cherub By Aaron Tang
Meet James usual troublemaker and the main protagonist A rebel by nature he gets his life turned upside down by the death of his mother and the separation from his sister His stepfather hates him Left with nowhere else to go he is consigned to a childrenrsquos home Despondent and resentful he lands himself in prison for theft He thinks his life is ruinedhellip until CHERUB picks him up CHERUB is a secret organization dedicated to adolescent spies No one suspects them to be aliases with the law let alone employed by it He is then given a choice join CHERUB and undo all he has done wrong or return back to the orphanage to wallow in self-pity
That Singlish Slang By Stella Suseno
Study Tips By Angel Luah Zi Xuan
Are you thinking Oh God Im behind on my revision and
exams are around the corner What can I do right now
I would recommend you spend 10 to 15 minutes listing
down the topics that will be tested on for your
examinations Then you should draw up a schedule to fit
all these topics in After which make sure you put your
plan in motion and follow your schedule closely Another
tip is to get enough sleep every night to have better
mornings This will help you concentrate better in class
and give you the energy to improve your performance in
class Also always be punctual for lessons so that you will
not miss out on anything important Last but not least do
not forget to have some fun when you need to take a
break from work It always helps All the best

In Your Free Time By Angel Luah Zi Xuan
Are you bored and want something to do in your free time
Do you ever find yourself stuck with no plans
Are you desperately looking for something meaningful to do during your weekend
If you answered yes to any of the above questions then this article just may be the solution to your lsquotoo much timersquo problem
I felt my cheeks burn remembering
the cold truth Ek felt the tension as well
because an awkward silence then ensued I
quickly shoved the book back onto the shelf
next to me embarrassed

been scientifically-proven that if one were to sweat in an air-conditioned room the sweat would
actually dry on onersquos skin leaving dark spots on onersquos face You wouldnrsquot want that would you
Honey half the battle is won with the right attitude You need to view school more positively as

they are right Your studies determine your future and if you were successful in life there will

both become more mature if you both still feel the same for each other then go ahead with

This book is exhilarating punchy and includes much of the issues that we
teenagers face now Itrsquos a fantastic book and I highly recommend it It isnrsquot too

Leadership through
Role-Modeling By Yong Xuan
A Vice-Chairperson of a class was caught
recently climbing the school gate It happened
on Friday 5th of April at about 130 pm
Eyewitnesses from this Vice-Chairpersonrsquos
class who wanted to remain anonymous have
testified that this was not the only rule that the
Vice-Chairperson has broken He has been
eating in class and encouraging classmates to
do likewise
A Student Councillor from his class had told
him not to eat in class but the Vice-
Chairperson did not heed the Councillorrsquos
advice Instead he continued to eat
provocatively in front of the Councillor Then
the Vice-Chairperson started to run around the
class and made the Councillor run after him
A leader is always watched by others The
leaderrsquos actions are always scrutinised The
leader needs to be of impeccable standing
with a good solid reputation A leader is a role
model
Angel-Mortal Game By Faarisha and Stella Suseno
More than a term has passed Are you still having
difficulties getting along with your classmates
Does the topic of class bonding often come up
during Form Teacher period Does the period
often end with still no ideas on how to improve
your class spirit
Heres a way You can play the Angel-Mortal
game What is it If you know what a Secret Santa
is then you are somewhat familiar already It can
be played by the whole class for as long as you
want but if youre starting out try one week First
you will need to draw lots containing names of
your classmate The person that you draw will be
your mortal and you are that mortals angel You
will also be the mortal of someone else who is
your angel
You can take care of your mortal by buying small
gifts like candy or stationery writing notes to him
her and so on Its up to you You should never let
your mortal know that you are hisher angel This
is the exciting part You must think of creative
ways to ensure your mortal does not find out it is
you even if it means lying right through your teeth
You may also be receiving gifts from your own
angel during the game After one week or
whenever the game is over you will reveal
yourself to him her and you will also find out who
your angel is too
By playing this game you will know more about
your mortals preferences Your mortal in turn will
know how sweet you are This game might sound
very simple but it really enhances the class-spirit
and it is a game filled with suspense and fun if
everyone plays Your mortal will be very happy if
you give him her something By secretly seeing
your mortal smiling at your gift you will also feel
happy because you managed to bring a smile to
your mortals face
A good leader doesnrsquot mislead or exploit
This Month in History By Ilyatunnisa bte Shaik Mohammad Iqbal
On May 2 2011 the US Special Operations Forces killed Osama bin
Laden during a raid on his secret compound in Abbottabad Pakistan It
was the end of a decade-long manhunt for the leader of the Al-Qaeda
terrorist organisation
He was the alleged perpetrator who had ordered the coordinated aerial
attacks of September 11th 2001 The tragic incident involved four
American passenger jets in which two were hijacked and deliberately
crashed into the now infamous 110-story Twin Towers of the World
Trade Centre in New York killing nearly three thousand people Another
jet struck the Pentagon building in Washington DC The last one was
headed toward Washington as well and crashed into a field in
Pennsylvania
Why History By Mrs Yasmin Messoussi
Letrsquos start with just 3 simple reasons why you should be paying more attention in History lessons
Love Bites By Jayne Lim (3E3)
I stepped into the busy bookstore and
looked around I spotted Ek standing by the
astronomy shelf I would usually go up to
him and say ldquoHirdquo but after everything that
had happened I did not know if I should
Still my instincts told me to talk to him
Mustering my courage I walked up
behind Ek As I reached out a hand to tap
his shoulder he spun around The second
he saw that it was me the book in his hand
fell to the floor with a loud distracting thud I
bent down to pick it up for him
ldquoThanks Bellerdquo Ek smiled I could tell
he never expected to see me but I never
thought he would even acknowledge me
ldquoAnytime Ekrdquo I went with a casual
reply and slowly we plunged into a
conversation as if nothing had ever torn us
apart until he took interest in the book I was
holding
ldquoLove Bitesrdquo Ek read the title out loud
I felt my cheeks burn remembering
the cold truth Ek felt the tension as well
because an awkward silence then ensued I
quickly shoved the book back onto the shelf
next to me embarrassed
Yearning Hearts By Anonymous

Problem
