Oncologists have reported that at least a four-fold increase in cancer cases from industrial areas near Vapi over the past seven years.

Earlier it was oxides of sulphur and nitrogen emitted from vehicles, now it is benzene and polyhydracarbons from industrial belt giving sleepless nights to health experts as these chemicals are known for carcinogenic effects.

Wild life and sea creature are at endanger as toxic waste thrown away in the river, which carries lethal chemicals into sea and many of the fishes are now dead. Also people who eat these seafood unknowingly are succumbed by the deadly cancer.

Clean air is out of reach to the people in nearby area, where the harmful chemicals are thrown into the river or the waste is burnt in open place, hence inhabitants have direct contact with the polluted air.

Soil contamination has diminished agriculture in amid area and Mango is the eminent crop from this soil, but productivity and quality are immensely affected that reduce the yield from the Mango related business such as juice, pulp and pickles. Also vegetables grown in this area contains dangerous chemicals.

 

• Dangerous chemical waste from Asia’s largest Industrial belt is thrown out irresponsibly; huge soil and water contamination issues – indigenous inhabitants are leaving their heritage land as exponential price rise, it requires stringent land acquisition laws.

• Air contamination has affected many agriculture crops and flowers varieties; it will be impossible to envisage the future of this area, if it continues to degrade at the same pace. It requires knowledge of intrinsic air purification guidelines.

• Technically advance water purification plants must be installed at each manufacturing unit and not only capital punishment but also level of trial should increase to control the environment damage.

• In future, high level of cancer or any mutant diseases are evident, hence medical screening is essential.

Introduction of a new macroeconomic modelling framework such as measurement of multiple benefits of reducing emissions of several pollutants can be used to design and analyse policies and projects, which provide a rationale for combining climate action with sustainable development.

Management at World Bank stated that improving municipal finances and strengthening capital investment planning with a climate focus will help cities deliver better services and become more livable and resilient in the long term.

development requires a comprehensive framework that includes good governance, sound legal incentive, and regulatory frameworks that protect property rights, enforce contracts and stimulate competitive markets. Additionally a sound financial sector that is adequately regulated and supervised with a basis in internationally accepted accounting and auditing standards. Furthermore, health, education and social services should reach the poor, women and girls. Moreover quality infrastructure and public services to promote rural development and liveable cities should acquire policies to promote environmental and human sustainability

The economic policies we endorse today will have an impact on urban poverty when our children are adults.

Effect and consequences:

Sustainable development is about finding better ways of doing things, both for the future and the present. We might need to change the way we work and live now, but this doesn't mean our quality of life will be reduced.

The longer we pursue unsustainable development, more frequent and severe its consequences are likely to become, which is why we need to take action now.

It is also about ensuring a strong and healthy society. This means meeting the diverse needs of all people in existing and future communities, promoting personal wellbeing, social cohesion and inclusion, and creating equal opportunity.

Sustainable development provides an approach to make better decisions on the issues that affect all our the World. By incorporating health plans into the planning of new communities, for instance, we can ensure that residents have easy access to healthcare and leisure facilities.
