Both women shared that they are victims of domestic violence. Their stories lay heavy on the hearts of each member of the Center, who was present and work with these women. Every member of the Center’s team each day has a unique role in relationship with each client. They are both trying to make healthy and smart deci- sions for themselves and their babies. We can only hope the welcome and information the Pregnancy Help Center staff presented, along with your prayers, will enable them to be in a safer place for themselves and their babies. Presenting the fact that a woman is car- rying “LIFE” in her womb is a tremendous responsibility, and I am extremely proud of the staff and volunteers of the Center for their constant dedication to the mis- sion and work of the Center. As supporters of the Pregnancy

Help Center, you understand the im-portance of the work we do—providing compassionate care for individuals in a crisis pregnancy. Your

support assists our counseling and their attentive and compassionate ears for the stories walking through our doors.

When you contemplate the impact the Pregnancy Help Center has had on the lives of many young women and babies, I hope you will also consider the invalu-able support you too have provided the Center. You enable the doors of the Center to continue to be open, provide support for the Medical staff that administers the pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and the tremendous work of counseling

The other day, we had two very special young women visit, and I would like to ask that you provide prayers for their safety and the safety of their babies. Both women shared that they are victims of domestic violence. Their stories lay heavy on the hearts of each member of the Center, who was present and work with these women. We can only hope the welcome and information the Pregnancy Help Center staff presented, along with your prayers, will enable them to be in a safer place for themselves and their babies.

Our luncheon fashion show on February 7 was very

well attended and made over $4600! I hope you were able to join us at the beautiful San Gabriel Country Club. If not, please mark your calendars for next February (date TBD) and join us! Different families modeled for us and it was such a treat to see some of our grandmas, daughters, and grandchildren participate. Huge thanks to Cathy Johansing and Melanie Wooler for producing another beautiful event!

Coming up is our major fun-draiser, the Mother’s Day gift. This fundraiser has proven, year after year, to be a wonder-ful example of your support for us. Hundreds of small gifts are delivered to homes all over the

San Gabriel Valley by our won-derful Parish Representatives and their intrepid bands of volunteers. Then we just wait for your gener-ous donations and they never fail to show your incredible generos-ity and love. If you have never received a hand-delivered gift from us the week before Mother’s Day, please let us know and we will get you one! Thanks to Emma Stewart and Helen Castillo for chairing the event. And I can’t mention the Mother’s Day Gift without thanking our Parish Rep Coordinators Mary Lund and Maria Finnegan. I can’t even begin to describe their hard work organizing the Parish Reps so that the gifts get delivered on time!

We will end the year with our last meeting in May where the old and new boards will meet. If

you have any desire to join us by taking a job on our board for next year, we would be thrilled to have you! Many hands make light work! Some of the board positions where you can help are February Luncheon, Mother’s Day Gift Fundraiser, and Parish Representative (desperately needed at some parishes!). We are a friendly and loving group with the common purpose of helping our dear Pregnancy Help Center. You would be welcomed with open arms! Y

Mrs. Luz Marrero an 86-year-old grandmother living in Puerto Rico, crochets and sews

beautiful baby blankets for the Pregnancy Help Center. We may have to acknowledge

her with a special honor of “Donations” that have come the farthest to help the Mothers

and babies of the Center. Each new mother is very thankful and touched by the special

handiwork of Mrs. Marrero.

Janice Parker donated new baby clothes

and home made blankets

PHC Board member, Dale Pittman was a visiting

presenter to share insight and information on

being a “grandparent” especially- Grandfather.

And to share the importance of male relatives

for the children. When young children have a

positive male relationship, it fosters strength

in character and independence once becoming

a young adult. We also presented much infor-

mation in regards to the current car seat laws,

as to the weight and size vs. the old conception

that age is when you move a child from a rear

facing car seat into a front facing car seat and

then when to sit a child in a booster car seat.

The mothers in attendance for the class were

very thankful for the updated information to

help them comply with the laws and safety of

car seats for their children. We thank Dale for

providing an extremely important class for all

the Parents of the Center.

JOb ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with great sadness that we announce that our dear Mary Lindgren will be retiring. Mary

has helped us for years, keeping our membership database up to date, preparing labels for all our mailings, providing files to the printer, entering all donations into Quickbooks, preparing periodic reports for our Treasurer, and preparing tax letters for all donors who gave $100 or more during the year.

The Auxiliary is actively looking to hire someone part-time to replace Mary. If you are interested or if you know of someone who has the skills please contact Jacqueline Halpin at [email protected]. Y
