Introduction

As products age, repair or replacement becomes more difficult to accomplish. While individual components change over time, the total automation system should never go out of date, and should evolve component by component as business needs change. Software lifecycle management leverages the capacity of an existing software automation investment, simplifying the integration of new technology and reducing maintenance costs. It is vital to identify key lifecycle stages and processes that must be managed to avoid obsolescence.

AVEVA offers Software Lifecycle Management Services as a part of the Customer FIRST program. AVEVA provides a report that shows the lifecycle status of all of your AVEVA software. We also provide backward compatibility across generations of software, along with a roadmap that presents a holistic view of future developments.

Managing the Automation Lifecycle through Customer FIRST Lifecycle Assessment Services

Annual Lifecycle Assessment Report

AVEVA will help you track the lifecycle status of all the installed software products in your plant. The Lifecycle Assessment Report provides valuable information about the installed AVEVA software products and licenses via a tool called Software Asset Manager (for Wonderware, Vijeo Citect and Ampla software).

Software Asset Manager will automatically discover your installed AVEVA software and products with a side-by-side comparison highlighting newer versions available. Your local sales person can discuss with you the benefits and functionality of the newer versions.

Upgrade Planning Roadmap

AVEVA will collaborate with your staff to identify a logical progression for the potential upgrade of AVEVA software to the most current version available. Building on the Lifecycle Assessment Report, this high-level upgrade roadmap will facilitate effective short and long term upgrade planning decisions. It will be updated annually, and may be used as the foundation for optional Upgrade and Migration Planning.

Upgrade/Migration Planning

AVEVA will partner with you to strategize replacement of legacy or competitive systems with current AVEVA technology. Building on the Upgrade Planning Roadmap, your upgrade/migration plan may include delivery of system configuration drawings, specific upgrade plans, and timeline documentation. The deliverable is a detailed executable plan with sufficient engineering detail to prepare a bid request.
