On the 42nd anniversary of Roe V. Wade, front line advocates gathered to celebrate life and unite in prayer over Houston at the newly established event – The Red Party. Hosted by The Source for Women’s Intercessory Team in collaboration with LifeHouse of Houston, Elijah Rising, and Rescue Houston, The Red Party event provided encouragement to local ministries and volunteers involved in the life movement. Over 100 attendees worshipped, enjoyed Scripture readings and joined in prayer for three key areas; the cause for life, those in leadership including churches and para churches, and for the abortion vulnerable. Executive directors for each host organization were blessed and prayed over including LifeHouses’ own, Sue Baumgarten. The most powerful moment of the evening occurred when a client served by the host ministries gave her moving testimony of choosing life

against all odds. She spoke of the pressure she had received from her family to have an abortion, and honored LifeHouse, The Source for Women, Elijah Rising, and Rescue Houston for being a part of her journey to choose life. The Roe V. Wade anniversary day was particularly significant to her as that was when she had originally scheduled to terminate her pregnancy. She is still currently living at LifeHouse and thriving as she works toward a new life in Christ and new goals for her future. The evening closed out with a cry for life over Houston using a shofar. Event attendees prayed with one another and celebrated with cake and dancing in anticipation for what God would do throughout the rest of 2015. The next Red Party date is already set for January 22, 2016. LifeHouse will send more information on the details closer to the event.

LifeHouse homes stayed particularly full this winter as several tours were hosted for potential community partners, donors, and others interested in learning more about the ministry. The year kicked-off hosting staff from 103.7 Air1, a nationally syndicated radio station playing contemporary Christian hits. The station has been in Houston about two years and is able to pick an allotted number of nonprofits to air Public Service Announcement’s (PSA). Air1 chose LifeHouse, and spots will begin running in May. Also touring the campus were over 30 women from Care Net Pregnancy Center of Northwest Houston. LifeHouse has partnered with Care Net for 22 years, and has served various girls referred by the ministry. Care Net is the
nation’s largest real-time call center providing pregnancy decision coaching. LifeHouse hosts tours for
anyone interested in learning more about the ministry. To schedule a tour email Meredith at [email protected].
In response to a non-residential services need, LifeLife has taken on a new strategic approach to reach abortion vulnerable women in communities across Houston. The goal of the program is to connect those in unplanned pregnancies to life-affirming services and programs in their local area. One of LifeLine’s first few clients of the year was Sue. Sue graduated from Texas State University with an accounting degree, and shortly after landing her first job, found herself pregnant with very little help. After a quick Internet search the scared mom stumbled upon LifeHouse’s website and was immediately enrolled into the LifeLine program. She was matched with a mentor, connected with her local crisis pregnancy center, and given
various items to aid in her single-parent journey. The now confident mom shares, “I am not sure where I would be without the help of the Lifeline program. My situation was once one of despair but is now one of hope.”
Social Services Director, Valerie Harkins Humes, has a goal of serving 10 LifeLine clients a month and 120 by the end of the year. Currently the program is on tract to serve this number or more.

While being a waitress, without permanent residence, and living paycheck to paycheck Elizabeth received some news that was surprising: she was
pregnant. “I felt so many different emotions. I was very nervous but equally excited.” She also knew she would need help during her pregnancy and beyond. In

late summer of 2013, Elizabeth moved across the country, from Michigan to Texas, to get out of a difficult situation leaving behind her family and friends. She thought she would to have to go through the pregnancy process on her own but upon arrival and by God’s grace, a friend from Michigan discovered LifeHouse for Elizabeth. “The moment I stepped into LifeHouse, I was at peace and felt a calmness I had not felt in a long time.” The residents and Savanna, Elizabeth’s housemother, became her family. Between the support bestowed upon the pregnant mom, as well as learning about God’s love and truth, she was able to focus on how to improve
not only her life but the life most important to her, baby Faith’s. It was during this time she also realized the power of adoption. Since she had a rough and troubled past, she wanted to do everything to ensure her baby would not have the same life she did. This gave her the motivation and strength to make the hardest but best decision of her life: to put her child up for adoption. “LifeHouse helped me give everything to God and put it in His hands.” With her newfound courage and trust, Elizabeth will go to school to become a nurse’s assistant and move back to Michigan in May, where she is determined to grow a career and continue glorifying God every
