Boost for Maddington-Kenwick community The City’s vision for sustainable economic growth in the Maddington-Kenwick area is being realised with the recent approval of an amendment to the Metropolitan Region Scheme (MRS). The approval means Rural-zoned land in the Maddington Kenwick Strategic Employment Area (MKSEA) has now be zoned Industrial, covering some 350ha and paving the way for large-scale industrial development – a plan the City has been working towards since 2005. Changing the land use has the potential to generate thousands of new jobs, boost investment and drive significant long-term economic benefits for the Maddington-Kenwick and wider community. The City’s investigation into the viability of future industrial development has been a lengthy and challenging process, given the area’s unique environmental characteristics. As a result there has, and will continue to be, a strong focus on protecting flora, fauna and Brixton Street Wetlands. Details of reports and mapping associated with the area are available on the City’s website. A detailed Structure Plan across most of MKSEA is currently being prepared and the City will continue to work closely with all landowners, businesses and the local community to finalise this Plan. For more details, please visit the City’s website or call 9397 3000. Light up your street this Christmas Residents have been challenged to make their neighbourhood the best Christmas light viewing location in Perth this festive season. Prizes are on offer for residents who decorate their homes and streets with Christmas lights, as part of the Safe City Christmas Lights Competition. Several prizes are on offer for participants, including: Best Private Residence will win $500 and a plaque; Best Decorated Street will win $1,000 and a street sign (requires five participating houses on a street); and Best First Time Entry will win a $100 voucher. Everyone else is encouraged to view the displays and motorists are reminded to be courteous to pedestrians, other drivers and neighbours when looking at the Christmas lights. Competition registration closes at midnight on Sunday 4 December. For information, registration or to find property locations, please visit the City’s website or call Safe City on 9391 6022. Clean up with Trolley Tracker In a bid to ‘beautify’ the City of Gosnells and stamp out illegal dumping, the City is calling on the community to join its efforts and use the Trolley Tracker and Trolley Collect apps to report abandoned shopping trolleys. For details, visit the App Store or call 1800 641 497 (Trolley Tracker) or 1800 876 553 (Trolley Collect). Annual celebration brings food and culture to life Thousands of people again turned out to celebrate the City’s cultural diversity at the annual Multicultural Food Fair last Friday night. Over 7,000 people attended the event, which featured more than 40 food stalls giving visitors an opportunity to sample authentic cuisine including Indian, Thai, Malay, French, Italian, New Zealand, African, Spanish, Kurdish and Lebanese. Visitors enjoyed live entertainment, carnival rides for the kids, a youth chill out zone and for the first time, a Global Village marquee with a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, calligraphy writing and cultural costumes. The evening finished with a dazzling fireworks display.
