life in a feudal village
DESCRIPTION
TRANSCRIPT
Living in England around the 10th to the 14th Century.
In this system people promised to be loyal to a stronger person (the King or Lord) and in return that person was given protection.
The society was very ordered and had a strict hierarchy of roles and positions.
Powerful Lords or Barons ( backed by a ruler) gave land to fiefs or serfs ( peasants).
They would farm the land.Other people of a slightly higher
status would work for the Lord to keep the serfs and others in order.
Draw a diagram that shows our societies structure.
Discuss with a friend how it is similar and / or different to feudal days?
You have been placed in a time machine and have been transported back to that village and the year is 1165.
Each of you will be given a role and place in society.
You will then have to find out how you lived and write a diary detailing a week in your new village.
Each Village will then have to come together and write a play that highlights a typical day in the life of the Village.
See handout.
