OUR PURPOSE IN LIFE“I want to know Christ and the power

CMAI News

Dear friends

Greetings in Jesus’ mighty name!

There always seems to be more work than one can handle! How to deal with this? It’s simple – ask God for wisdom. Moses was overwhelmed with the Red Sea in front and the Egyptian army behind; but he asked God what to do. All that was expected of him was, “Raise the staff that is in your hand” - a task too simple. Because it was from God, he could accomplish what he couldn’t do by his own wisdom or might.

Our internal Review Meeting on 8 April had a report of all activities done from Jan-Mar 2011 and future plans in general. Various suggestions came in and the work till now was appreciated.

The Doctors Executive Committee Meet-ing 2011 was held at Ranchi on 15 April. The section’s Chairperson, Dr Nitin Joseph, led the meetings with very meaningful discussions and inputs on how to be more effective as an organisation.

Following this, we had a Doctors meeting and students retreat which went off well with doctors and medical students from in and around Ranchi participating. I thank Rev Murmu, Director of SDA Hospital, Ranchi, for his co-operation and help.

At the time of writing this, the 4th in the series of CMEs on Emergency Medicine is being planned for 3-4 June in Miraj at Wanless Hospital Miraj Medical Centre. This time it will be led by Dr Suresh David who heads the Dept of Emergency Medicine at CMC Vellore.

The Regional Conference of the Northeast Region is being planned for September.

Marking the start of project SAROJ, the CHD at CMAI organised a 2-day workshop for project staff on 2 and 3 May 2011 in Muzaf-farpur district, Bihar. SAROJ (Swasthya Ebam Rojgar) is a 3-year integrated health and livelihood project started by CMAI. Project Start-up Workshop for SAROJ, Bihar

Dear friends,

Greetings to you all in the name of the Lord!

As mentioned in the last column, the Nurses League had conducted two work-shops. First at Wanless Hospital, Miraj, on Advances in Nursing Practice for which my sincere thanks go to Mr Samuel Fernandis and his team. The second was conducted at Graduate School of Nursing, Indore, on Legal Implications in Nurs-ing Practice and Minority Rights. My heartfelt gratitude to Miss Mamta Soren and the staff of Graduate School of Nurs-ing for organising it.

5 June is celebrated as the World

Environment Day and this year, India has been offered the opportunity to host the celebrations. Mumbai and Delhi have been selected as venues for this year’s global celebration of the environment.

In line with this year’s CMAI theme, Our World, Our Health – care today, rewarded tomorrow, let us do our part in our respective fields to keep our envi-ronment healthy.

In the light of the above mentioned theme, it has been estimated that by the year 2020 half of the world’s sick people will be living in India. This is a challenge for us, which if not properly addressed could cause great sorrow and misery among the masses. As the vision has been clearly laid out, let us press on to our mark; knowing that our labour in the Lord will never go in vain while bringing hope and healing to many.

Farewell

Dear friends in Christ,

We have made an amendment to our MoU with IGNOU pertaining to the degree programmes we launched. Though we registered our students in 2009, we have not got our share of fees from IGNOU. This has caused major displeasure in our membership network. It was difficult to convince them as our faculties from the institutions, parents and students - all had to undergo unimagined stress.

On 22 April (Good Friday) Dr Vijay Aruldas and I were at IGNOU to sign the amendment in the MoU. We were assured of the payment and it took another month for us to get the promised amount for the 1st year registration of the 1st batch. We got it on 1 June 2011. We will send the amount to all our institutions after verify-ing the details. From now on, we expect all payments to be made in a timely man-ner. We thank all member institutions for bearing with the inordinate delay. The third batch is about to enroll. All preparations have begun for the next academic year. St Joseph’s Hospital, Kothamangalam, and Duncan Hospital, Raxaul, are starting BSc MLT this year.

I paid a lengthy visit to some of our member institutions in Tamilnadu and Kerala. I also attended three Training Com-mittee meetings including Ophthalmology, Anaesthesiology and Medical Radiation Technology. More training committee meetings, AHP Executive Committee and Central Education Board meetings are be-ing planned from 17 to 22 June 2011.

Please send your nominations for the Mategaonkar Award from our section. The prescribed forms have already been for-warded to all regional sectional secretaries. If you need one, please contact me. As the Biennial Conference approaches, I request you to plan, participate and motivate (your friends) as well.

Dear friends,

One of the mandates of the Institution De-velopment Desk has been to help member institutions in the network to strengthen their vision and mission. As a start, we are compiling an “inventory” of practices of our member institutions. Some have had formal “vision building” exercises. Others have regular retreats. Please do write in and let us know what your institution has done or does to sustain and strengthen the vision and mission of the hospital and the staff.

The other aspect we will be collecting information on over the next few months is, the “fellowship and community” aspects of our mission hospitals. This is a vital part that is always there, but which we often over-look in our discussions. How do we build a sense of fellowship in our hospitals? What works and what does not work? Please do write in to me with idea, suggestions and things that you do.

By sharing with each other, I am sure there is much that we can learn.

The NABH facilitation work of CMAI will now be managed by Mr Stephen Victor with the help of Ms Neetu Singh.

For other institutional requests, please approach either the appropriate sectional secretary, or the secretary in charge of your zone, or me.

Dr Vijay Aruldas General Secretary
