PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hello Members, It is an honour to be your new President and I look forward to working with our Committee,

Convenors and members to continue to maintain this club. If you do not know me, please

come and make yourself known.

This year has flown past and we are looking forward to our Christmas Lunch at the Dorset

Gardens Hotel. Last year was a great success and this one will be just as good as we have Flashback Duo

returning to entertain us. Nick Wakeling our State member for Ferntree Gully, and Jackson Taylor, State

member for Bayswater will also be joining us for lunch.

On the 3rd of September we held a morning tea for new members at our Membership Secretary’s home. It

was a great success with 12 new members attending. Thank you to Carol for hosting the event and the

Convenors and Committee members who helped with catering. Sadly 3 members have passed away in

November.

I have had good reports on the Silo Art Trail and Warrnambool trip. It was very well organised by Frank and

Lorraine of the Extended Holidays Group. I believe a trip to Echuca is next in their plans. A trip like this is

wonderful way to get to know other members better.

Thank you to Judy, Lothar and Carol, for assisting at The Hub at the Town Hall during Seniors Week,

promoting our club.

You will aware that we now have a new management system. Part of this is a requirement for your date of

birth. The information will only be used for administrative purposes. As everyone who has no date of birth

recorded is listed as being 119 years of age our current average age in the club is 94. If you have not

already given us this information, please ring Carol on 97272726 and leave a message.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year.

Margaret

WELL BEING MATTERS Co-ordinator: Beth 9758 9724

In the last few months I have sent get well cards to:

Dawn Stuart, Harry Peace, Cheryl Leggett and Bill Basset.

We trust they are now well on the mend.

Sympathy cards were sent to:

Joan Ennis – husband Graham passed away

Lorna Deverill – sister passed away

Jenny Wisse – husband John passed away

To the family of Margot Nue on her passing

Condolences to them and their families.

If you know of anyone who is unwell, in hospital or has lost a family member please ring me….

Beth

VALE

Margot Neu Sadly we note the sudden passing of Margot on

November 1st, who was a member of our club since 1996. A keen participant of many activities, she held the position of Co-Convenor of the Scrabble Group

from January 2001 to August 2003. A lovely lady

who will be missed by those who knew her.

VALE

Joyce Monk A brave lady who lost her battle with cancer on November 8th. A member of our club since 2018 Joyce was a keen 500 Card player who will be

missed by the members of that group.

VALE

John Wisse We note the sudden passing of John, husband of

Jenny, on November 7th. A regular attendee at the

Cinema group, John had just recently re-joined our

club.

Thank You from Carola Beckert I would like to thank everyone who was on our

recent trip to the Silos for their assistance and care,

when I injured myself and was disappointingly forced

to return home from Stawell.

Special thanks to Frank, our bus driver Linda and

my roommate Helen, who were so very kind to me.

Carola

A Smile is a sign of Joy

A Hug is a sign of Love

A Laugh is a sign of Happiness

Friendships are Gold

A Phone call or visit to those who have suffered a loss recently may be just what they need…

FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK

Thank you to all the co-ordinators and contributors for forwarding your articles to me. Also grateful thanks to

the members who assist me with checking and distributing the Newsletter. Thank you all.

The deadline for the next edition is: 4th February 2020

The e-mail address for your reports and articles is [email protected]

Or mail to P.O. Box 19, Boronia. 3155.

Oops!

When I was a kid my parents would always

say “Excuse my French” just after a swear

word. I’ll never forget the first day at school

when my teacher asked if any of us knew

French!

IMPORTANT NOTICES

HEAT POLICY & CANCELLATION OF EVENTS On a day determined as a Code Red Day, rated as Severe, Extreme, or a Total Fire Ban, or on days

where the temperatures are forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology to be 35° or higher, all outdoor activities

will be cancelled.

The Co-Ordinator will need to confirm this is the case, by listening to any Victorian news service, or by

checking the Emergency Victoria Website for confirmation (http://emergency.vic.gov.au), and/or the Bureau of Meteorology (www.bom.gov.au).

Club visits to an area where there is a known active bushfire, must be cancelled, and all members likely to

participate, notified prior to travelling to the area. The Convenor, or a nominated person, is to attend the planned departure point, to advise members who have possibly arrived for the event.

If, at any time, a Club member feels unsafe in a bushfire-prone area, they must leave the area as soon as

possible, and this needs to be facilitated by the event Co-Ordinators.

Where buses, for travel to the event, have been arranged, it is advisable to check with the company as to

whether it has a heat policy when high temperatures are expected in bush areas.

DONATIONS FOR CAR POOLING The Committee has set the following rates for accepting a ride to the Club’s various outings: (a) Trips up to 25 km from Bayswater $3.00 per person. (b) Trips 26 to 50km from Bayswater $4.00 per person (c) Trips 51 to 75km from Bayswater $5.00 per person. (d) Trips over 75 km from Bayswater $6.00 per person Passengers please pay with a smile and drivers please accept as a matter of agreement

Who can relate to this???

I find these days that most of my

conversations start out with;

Did I tell you this already? Or

What was I going to say?
