Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will be in Northern Ontario to participate in a series of events and visit with the people and communities of the region from Monday, August 24 to Thursday, August 27, 2015. The purpose of the tour is to listen to the concerns and aspirations of citizens, and to promote the cultural richness and diversity of our province. Her Honour said: “I am looking forward to meeting with the civic and community leaders and First Nations representatives of these dynamic centres in Northern Ontario. It will be an enormous pleasure to get to know the people who live in Dryden, Kenora, Fort Frances, Thunder Bay, and the surrounding areas. Ontario is an extraordinary province, and throughout my visit I look forward to highlighting the tremendous work, creativity, and spirit of those who call the North their home.” The Lieutenant Governor’s public activities are listed below. 9 a.m. – Visit to Kenora City Hall Upon arrival at City Hall, Her Honour will proceed to the council chambers to meet with Mayor David Canfield, city councillors, First Nations representatives, and local residents. She will then sign the city’s guestbook and deliver brief remarks. The Lake of the Woods Water Sustainability Foundation will deliver a presentation on its initiatives relating to the Lake of the Woods basin. 9 a.m. – Visit to the Fort Frances Tourist Information Centre Accompanied by Deputy Mayor June Caul and city officials, Her Honour will visit the local tourist information centre to receive an overview of the community and issues of local importance. 11 a.m. – Visit to Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre Following a tour of the centre, which will place emphasis on the building’s energy efficient design, Her Honour will meet with city councillors and First Nations representatives. City staff will deliver a presentation about the Rainy Lake Market Square project, which saw the repurposing of an old hotel into a public market space. 601 Reid Avenue, Fort Frances 2 p.m. – Community tour Accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Fort Frances, Her Honour will tour sites of importance to the community, including: the local recycling transfer station and the Sorting Gap Marina.

8:30 a.m. – Visit to the Thunder Bay Art Gallery Arriving on Thunder Bay Transit’s “art bus”, which is covered inside and out with the work of local artists, Her Honour will tour the Thunder Bay Art Gallery and share breakfast with Mayor Keith Hobbs and gallery representatives. 1080 Keewatin Street, Thunder Bay 10 a.m. – Visit to Thunder Bay City Hall Her Honour will attend a courtesy call with the Mayor of Thunder Bay and sign the city’s guest book.
