    Lieutenant Governor to visit Brampton

    Toronto, May 9, 2016. Her Honour the Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will

    conduct an official visit to Brampton on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. The visit is part of Her Honour’s

    continued program of travel to communities across the province.

    The Lieutenant Governor’s visit will also highlight the importance of public transit to the development of

    sustainable communities. To this end, Her Honour will travel to Brampton on GO Transit’s Kitchener

    line. Before departing on the 8:48 train from Union Station in downtown Toronto, Her Honour will tour

    the newly constructed York Concourse. She will receive a PRESTO Card from Metrolinx CEO Bruce

    McCuaig. While en route to Brampton, she will learn about GO Transit’s major expansion plans during

    a briefing with Greg Percy, President of GO Transit.

     Approximately 9:37 a.m. – Arrival and tour of Mount Pleasant GO Station

    1600 Bovaird Drive West, Brampton

    Greeted by Brampton Mayor Linda Jeffrey, the Lieutenant Governor will tour the recently constructed

    Mount Pleasant GO Station and learn about the New Urbanist principles behind the planning approachof the surrounding community.

    10:15 a.m. – Visit to Alderlea

    40 Elizabeth Street South, Brampton

    During a visit to 19th-century mansion Alderlea, Her Honour will be received by the Mayor of Brampton

    during a private courtesy call. Her Honour will then join city and regional officials, representatives of

    local businesses, and members of civil society during a roundtable focusing on urban planning and the

    economic and environmental aspects of sustainability.

    Her Honour will deliver remarks and greet municipal officials and residents during a civic reception

    hosted by the Mayor and Council of Brampton.

    12:30 p.m. – Visi t to Gurdwara Dasmesh Darbar

    4555 Ebenezer Road, Brampton

    Her Honour will visit the Gurdwara Dasmesh Darbar, marking the first time that the Lieutenant

    Governor of Ontario has visited a Sikh place of worship. She will meet with the Gurdwara’s president

    and with community members.
