Dr. Yakov E Cherner, founder, ATeL, a LIDO associate company, possesses 20+ years of teaching practice and vast experience in software development and management.

He has taught physics, materials science and computer science.He was involved in conceptual design, development and testing of innovative software packages for education and engineering.

Dr. Cherner proposed a unique approach to conceptual online Science, Math, Engineering and Technology (SMET) learning. This approach was utilized in the design of a highly interactive simulation-based e-learning solution, "Active Learning Suite" (ALSuite). He believes that students are better at learning concepts if they have experience with concrete phenomena that are being studied and if they are aware of the potential applications of the knowledge they are acquiring.

Yakov Cherner has received his M.S. degree (in Physics) and Ph.D. (in Physics and Mathematical Science) from Rostov State University. He holds two patents and more than 60 papers in national and international journals and conference proceedings.
