Registering and Installing a Node-Locked License Registering If you are using a USB dongle, please follow the steps in Installing a USB Dongle prior to launching the License Wizard.

1. Launch the License Wizard from the solidThinking Start Menu or Application folder. If you do not have a valid license on your workstation, the License Wizard will automatically start if you launch solidThinking or Inspired and the license status will show ‘Not Activated’ next to the product names.

2. Click the Register button. This will launch the solidThinking web page where you can register to obtain a license via email.

3. Once your license file has been e-mailed to you, copy it to your desktop.

Installing the License

1. Launch the License Wizard again, but this time click the Activate License button. Locate your license file on your desktop and click Open.

2. Your license should now be activated. If you have a demo license, the License Wizard will show you how much time remains next to the product names. If you have a full-term license, it will show ‘Activated’.

Connecting to a Server License 1. If you are connecting to an existing license server, ask your system administrator to

send you the port@host information. Enter that information in the space provided next to the Connect to Server button, and then click the button to connect.

Installing a USB Dongle

Windows 7 (automatic installation): 1. Insert your USB dongle into an empty USB slot on your workstation. 2. Windows 7 will automatically find and install the correct drivers. 3. A red light on the dongle will glow if it is installed correctly. 4. If you have problems with the automatic installation, follow the instructions for other

Windows operating systems below.

Windows XP/Vista: 1. Download the Windows USB Dongle Driver from the X-Formation website. 2. Unzip and install the driver. 3. Once the installation is complete, plug your USB dongle into an empty USB slot on

your workstation. 4. A red light on the dongle will glow if it is installed correctly.

Mac OS X: 1. Download the Mac USB Dongle driver from the X-Formation website. 2. Install the driver. 3. Once the installation is complete, plug your USB dongle into an empty USB slot on

your workstation. 4. A red light on the dongle will glow if it is installed correctly.

Administering a License Server on Mac OS X Before starting, make sure your system meets all hardware and software requirements.

Installing a License Server on Mac OS X 1. Download altair_licensing_11.0.1.darwin_universal.zip 2. Double-click the altair_licensing_11.0.1.darwin_universal.zip file to unzip the licserv

application. Launch the licserv application. 3. The Altair Licensing Installation window appears. Click the lock icon and enter

your administrator password. 4. Proceed through the next few dialogs, entering information for the installation path.

Click Next. 5. You will be prompted to select your license file. If you have already obtained a

license file from solidThinking Inc., select Yes when asked if you have a valid license for this host. If you do not have a license file, select No. You will be able to select a license file at a later time. Click Next.

6. Select the Yes radio button when asked to enable the automatic service startup. Click Next.

7. Select No when asked to setup the Usage Reporting System. The Usage Reporting System sends anonymous usage reporting data to Altair. This service can also be turned off after the server has been configured. Please refer to the Altair License Management System Document for further information. Click Install.

8. Before closing the installer, a list of valid hostid’s are displayed. Please save the LONG: System Serial Hostid. If your server is set up with a USB dongle, save the DONGLE: HASP HL Dongle Hostid. This number will be used to generate a license for your server. Register the Hostid by visiting: http://www.solidthinking.com/register

9. Finish and close the license server installation.

Starting a License Server on Mac OS X 1. Rename the license file sent to you by solidThinking to altair_lic.dat. 2. Drag and drop the license file into the server installation’s root directory using a

Finder window (The default root directory location is /Applications/Altair/licensing11.0).

3. Your system will ask you to Authenticate. Click Authenticate and then Replace and enter your password to complete the operation. This will overwrite the empty altair_lic.dat already found in that directory.

4. Open a Terminal window. 5. In the Terminal window, type the following: (Terminals are case sensitive.)

sudo bash <Enter> (you will be prompted for your root password) /Library/StartupItems/altairlmxd/altairlmxd restart <Enter>

6. The message “The Altair License Manager was successfully started” should appear. The message may take a few moments to appear in the terminal window.

7. Open a new Terminal window while maintaining your original terminal window. 8. Type the following status query to insure it’s serving licenses:

/Applications/Altair/licensing11.0/bin/lmxendutil –licstat <Enter>

9. The command should return something similar to the license status shown below:

Installing a License Server on Windows 1. Based upon your server’s hardware configuration, download the appropriate 32-bit

or 64-bit version of the license server. The filenames are listed below:

32-bit: altair_licensing_11.0.1.win32_x86.exe 64-bit: altair_licensing_11.0.1.win64_x64.exe

2. Launch the license server installer. 3. The Altair licensing installation window appears. Proceed through the next few

dialogs, entering information for the installation path. Click Next. 4. Click Next to verify the installation size. 5. You will be prompted to select your license file. If you have already obtained a

license file from solidThinking Inc., select Yes when asked if you have a valid license for this host. If you do not have a license file, select No. You will be able to select a license file at a later time. Click Next.

6. Select No when asked to set up the Usage Reporting System. The Usage Reporting System sends anonymous usage reporting data to Altair. This service can also be turned off after the server has been configured. Please refer to the Altair License Management System Document for further information. Click Install.

Note: the harddisk Hostid will not change even if the server is reformatted. This number will be used to generate a license for your server. Register the Hostid by visiting: http://www.solidthinking.com/register

8. Finish and close the license server installation.

Windows Explorer (The default location is C:\Program Files\Altair\licensing11.0). This will overwrite the empty altair_lic.dat file already found in that directory.

3. From the installation’s root directory, double click the Run_ConfigTool.

4. Click on the License Server Configuration tab.

5. Click the Start Server button found at the bottom of the window. The Service status should change from Service is stopped! to Service is running!

6. Click on the Query License Server tab and then click Perform. The output should look similar to the image below.
