Greetings to all our readers! We are proud to present our Christmas Special edition of LIBYTES. Thanks to all our news contributors whose inputs are essential to this e-newsletter‘s success. We appreciate all the positive feedback provided by our esteemed readers who enjoyed our edition last month.

In this special edition we share the season’s greetings along with news of all the happenings on campus and announcements of exciting programmes coming up in the New Year. The Staff and Students of LIBA participated in the Holy Mass specially held on 10th December 2018 to celebrate the joys of the season and received a special Christmas message. In refl ecting the true spirit of Christmas, the usual Christmas celebrations were cancelled and the money kept aside for celebrations was given to the victims of the Gaja Cyclone.

A new tailor-made course was launched by the Informatics Centre. Our BMI and Student Clubs sections feature activities that have taken place this past month. We also feature new events in the Departments section and Highlights of Meets planned by the LIBA Alumni Association.

It is our constant endeavour to make available to our readers, information that is current, interesting and that adds value. If you have any queries insights/suggestions regarding the kind of information you may like to receive from us via this medium, please contact the editorial team. S�u��n� Ac���i��e�PBThe group events of LIBA Premier League commenced with the treasure hunt which was conducted on Sunday, 2nd December 2018. Six teams participated in the event which began at 8.00 am. Team Kolkata emerged the winners, followed by team Mumbai and team Kochi respectively. LPL members Christabel Eunice, Jophin P. John, Neethu Augustine and Catherine Alex handed over the prizes to the winners.

Treasure Hunt

Cyclone Gaja is offi cially one of the worst to hit the Delta Region in the past 25 years. The mighty cyclone’s path of destruction encompassed Nagappattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudhukottai, Sivagangai, Dingugal and parts of Theni & Madurai districts. The students of LIBA decided to help the people aff ected with some fi nancial aid and the Christmas celebration for 2018 was cancelled so as to allocate those funds for relief as a donation to the victims. Apart from the management’s donation around 17,000 rupees was collected by students and added to the total amount which was used to buy food and other basic necessities for the people who suff ered loss of their homes and farms.

Visit to “PREMAVASAM”

On 25th November 2018, students of the Radius Club of LIBA visited “PREMAVASAM” an orphanage for Mentally Retarded, Physically Challenged and Less Fortunate Children which is located in the vicinity of Porur. The visit was a memorable one for the team and the kids there. PREMAVASAM was founded by Mr. Selvyn Roy in 1999. It is a home for 210 children out of which 135 are special kids. Others are school goers. ”Even on the worst days we fi nd possibilities for joy” said Lakshmi a 13 year old school girl.

A blood donation camp was organised by Radius club of LIBA in collaboration with HDFC on3rd December 2018 from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm. A team of 12 doctors and nurses from MMC came for collection of blood. The event started with a small prayer by Prof. Dr. M Victor. Rev. Fr. Christie SJ, Director of LIBA lit the lamp and shared a few words. There was an overwhelming response from students and other donors and a total of 84 participants registered and 72 units of blood were collected. A Certifi cate of appreciation, donation card, a water bottle and refreshments were given to each donor as a token of gratitude.

A two-day retreat was planned on 9th and 10th November 2018 for the Christian students at Jo Beach Resort. Designed to encourage self-refl ection on spiritual and moral aspects of life, this spiritual exercise brought about a change in the moral structure of the participants thus enabling them to apply it in their daily lives.

Congratulations!LIBA student Mr. Rahul Dixit, 2nd year PGDM (Marketing and HR) participated in “Call for Articles – Zeitgeist” conducted by IIM, Udaipur. His article on “How We Got Sold on Products We Never Thought We’d Need“ was selected for publication in the annual magazine of MarClan.

Similarly a retreat for the Non-Christian students was held on the same dates at the LIBA Auditorium. Dr. R. Ramaraj, a serial entrepreneur who has been involved in ventures in IT, cellular and Internet and who is a Senior Advisor at Elevar Equity, along with Mr. J.R. Krishnan or JK as he is known among friends, an alumnus of I.I.T. Madras and I.I.M. Calcutta and who is involved with the I.T. Industry in India since 1985 conducted the two-day session. The retreat was indeed a rejuvenating experience and enabled students to deepen their understanding of ethics and values encouraging them to practice these in their lives.

In the Beyond Management Initiative session held on 28th November 2018, we had Mr. Damodar, Senior Banker and Ex-VP and Head of offshore Banking Operations for Atos (previously Siemens), sharing his views on the big picture and small picture. He described the small picture in an organization as SLA’s KRA’s productivity, deadlines, top-line (turnover), bottom-line (profi t) and the Big picture as the Organization, Industry, Country, World. He said that the diff erence between manager and leader was that a manager has the small picture in mind and a framework to work with whereas a leader has the big picture in mind, creates vision and gets people to follow his vision.

The pros, myths and challenges in the HR industry were some of the major topics which were discussed in this BMI session on 14th November 2018. The students of LIBA got a good opportunity to interact with Mr. Ganesh Chella, Co-founder and Managing Director of Coaching Foundation India Ltd and Founder of Totus Consulting. The session was a very interactive one where students were asked about their various views on the HR sector and other current aff airs.

Excelling in Human Resources – Perspectives for Emerging Professionals

The BMI session on 5th December 2018 was yet another intriguing session which focused on the various facets in the banking sector. The guest speaker - Ms. Archana Ganesan, Assistant Vice President and Branch Head, HDFC Bank, an alumni of LIBA, explained how LIBA helped her initiate her corporate career, as her recruitment into HDFC Bank 13 years ago was through the campus recruitments. The highly informative session was concluded by Ms. Archana saying that “Banking is a constantly evolving fi eld. Hence, you have only two options, either you change or you perish”.

Digital Marketing training for the APR club

The Admissions and Public Relations committee attended a session on Digital Marketing Strategies on 10th November 2018. Conducted by education services company Pagalguy in collaboration with LIBA, the session was presided over by trainers, Sachin Serigar and Shoa Ahmed from Pagalguy. Their primary aim was to provide an understanding of the current trends in the PGDM admission process and devise bespoke strategies to improve the digital presence of the institution on various online platforms. The committee also created and laid down a framework for the digital marketing campaign for PGDM admissions 2019-21 after an enthusiastic exchange of ideas.

Informatics Centre launches new course LIBA’s Informatics Centre launched a new tailor-made course for Loyola Commerce department students. The first batch was started on 16th November 2018. 27 PG students and 23 UG students are undergoing the course. The course was designed with an aim to learn Spread Modelling in MS-Excel and Accounting, Inventory, GST & Payroll process in Tally ERP.

The LIBA Admissions & PR team conducted a WhatsApp session on 21st November 2018, to clarify the doubts/queries of potential students of the LIBA PGDM 2019 program. This session was conducted between 5.00 and 6.00 pm attracting around 50 aspirants across the country. The four member APR student committee successfully clarified and addressed all the doubts and concerns of the aspirants who were happy that senior students were interacting with them at their level of understanding, rather than management. Many expressed their desire to have more such sessions in the future.

C.K. Prahalad Centrefor Emerging India

Prof. M.A. Kalam and Prof. A. Xavier Raj were the Panel Speakers in a CII Regional Colloquium on Sustainable Development “Achieving Global Goals to Ensure No one is Left Behind” on 22nd November 2018 at Hotel Hilton, Chennai. Thiru K. Pandiarajan delivered the inaugural address. Prof. Kalam spoke on “India moving towards Sustainable and Inclusive Development,” and Prof. Xavier spoke on “Strengthening Our Economy – Enabling Industries Contribution to SDGs.”

CKP Centre is a co-organiser of “The Rise” – Global Summit of Tamil Entrepreneurs and Professionals 2018 to be held in Madurai between 28 – 30 December 2018. The summit was unveiled during the press meet on 4th December 2018 at the Cosmopolitan Club, Chennai. “The Rise” would bring together 500 entrepreneurs, both successful and aspiring, along with entrepreneurially inclined professionals, from all over the world.

LIBA was invited by MHRD IIC to attend the inauguration of Innovation Councils in educational institutions across India. The council consists of Ms. Vishwa Paresh, the student convener, industry experts, representatives from an Incubation Centre and fi nancial institutions.

Representatives of the Sewagram Collective, K.C. College (Mumbai), CKP Centre, LIBA met in Mumbai on 24th November 2018, to discuss the time-frame for production of three books on Mahatma Gandhi, an international conference and signing of MoU. The representatives will meet again at LIBA in January 2019 with the Director and sign the MoU with CKP Centre.

Prof. A. Xavier Raj was invited for a consultation on 2nd November 2018 at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi, organised by Ministry of Housing and Urban Aff airs, GoI, for sector experts and core stakeholders to develop a comprehensive and robust strategy on the way forward of Ease of Living 2.0.

Prof. A. Xavier Raj, Chairperson – C.K. Prahalad Centre for Emerging India, LIBA, has contributed to the article titled “From Founders to Funders“ which was published in Daily News and Analysis, India (DNA).

The Placement process for 2018-19 had companies from different industries visiting our campus for recruitment. As many as 40 companies such as: Deloitte, Vedanta, Citi Bank, Crisil, Cognizant, HDFC, Bank of America, Ernst and Young, Dabur, Oyo rooms, Mind tree, Temenos, Animaker etc. came forward to off er various roles such as: Business Analyst, Sales Associate, Management Trainee, Digital Marketing specialist, Product Manager and the like. ICICI bank recruited the maximum number of students with a total count of 11, followed by Cognizant and HDFC

Placements - 2018-19

Bank with a count of 10 and 9 students respectively. More than 10 companies off ered salary packages greater than the mean salary of Rs. 9.3 LPA, with Amazon being the highest pay master off ering Rs.16.85 LPA. 2018 has been a good year for placements with maximum number of candidates being placed within a week.

“The best thing about memories is making them”

Refreshing Old Memories while making New Ones!

Four batches of LIBAites came together on 1st December, 2018 to celebrate their 10th and 15th year reunion. The full-time and part-time batches (F01 & Y) of the class of 2003 and full-time and part-time batches of the class of 2008 (F06 & P05) were back on campus to relive old memories and make new ones. The memorable evening witnessed a record turn out by the Y and P05 batches while the F01 batch topped the record for connecting the majority batch mates over skype and social media platforms.

The 10th and 15th year reunion of the classes of 2003 and 2008, full-time and part-time Alumni was held on 1st December 2018 and was a monumental success. On 9th December 2018 a New Alumni Executive Committee was also nominated for a term of 2 years. This team is now coordinating hosting of the annual alumni meet to be held in February 2019. Apart from this the Mumbai Chapter Alumni Meet will be held on 27th January 2019 and preparations for this event is in progress.

CHRYSALIS 2K19

CHRYSALIS 2K19 an inter B-school management event is scheduled to be held on 2nd and 3rd February 2019 at LIBA with the theme “An Era of Disruption.”

CHRYSALIS 2K19 provides a stage to showcase the participant’s acumen and fl air for managerial as well as extra-curricular activities through events such as Best Manager, Band Slam and Burn the Floor to name a few.

CENTRE FOR BUSINESS ETHICS AND CORPORATE GOVERNANCEBEACON 2018-19 focussing on the theme “Sustainable Business Practices for a Better Tomorrow” will be held on 8th February 2019 at hotel The Residency Towers, Chennai.

LIBA has been organizing various programs and activities to promote business ethics and good corporate governance among its stakeholders, particularly the students. One such program is the Business Ethics Conference (BEACON) which has been annually organised since 2007.
