IntroductionToassistourcustomersGraphisofthavedevelopedanewARCHICADadd-onthatsimplifiesandstreamlinescustomGDL-basedlibraryparts.ThecurrentreleaseislimitedtothescopeofatechnologypreviewthatwillhopefullybeasteppingstoneforfurtherimprovedARCHICADfeaturesinthisarea.TheLibraryPartMakeraimstoprovidearobustapproachwiththefocusondeliveringthe‘I’inBIMasstandardbasedonBS8541-1/2/3.Theadd-oncreatesadatadrivenapproachthatallowsdesignfreedomtoremaincentraltotheuser.ThisstronglycomplementsGraphisoft’sapproachtocreatingatoolfordesignersandiskeytogivingarchitectsthefreedomtocreateanything.ThetemplatewillalsoassistinimprovingIFCexchangebystandardisingthestoreddataorganisationinlibrarypartsfortheuserandseektomakeCOBie-UK-2012anin-builtstandardforallitsusers.ThisshouldassistallusersseekingtodeliverCOBietotheirclientsandmakedataexchangemorerobustandmorereliable.Theadd-onalsoseekstobecompatiblewithinternationalapproaches.HavingastandardapproachinlibrarypartsdevelopmentwillallowbettertrainingmaterialtobedevelopedandintimealsoallowUKandIrelandcompaniestoemploystaffwithoutneedingtoretrainwhereanemployeehasworkedforanotherUKorIrelandfirm.
