Founded in 1936, the Society of American Archivists is the oldest and largest organization dedicated to archival preservation

The group held its f irst convention in 1937 and stared releasing its journal American Archivist in 1938.

During the 1950s, professional standards were set

Addressed challenges regarding computer-generated records in 1960s

1970-1980 saw much growth and special interests groups were formed

Founded in 1931, the Music Library Association began in the United States, but now has members from all over the world.

Eva Judd O’Meara and Carleton Sprague Smith from the New York Public Library organized the event at the American Library Association in CT.
