The Teaching & Learning Careers Academy has 35 Senior Interns working in local schools, in addition to our Junior Job Shadows and Sophomore Reading Buddies. All of the TLC Academy students are learning about jobs in education while getting real life experience in classrooms. The picture is of Mallory Muniz reading to students at Brentwood Elementary School. The TLC Academy has many fun events planned for this year: we will visit UC Berkeley in October, Sacramento State in February and a private university in the Spring.

Arabian Nights and are gearing up for a non-stop second quarter. Along with our booster club, Parents of Playmakers, we are planning Oktoberfest, our annual Haunted House, The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon (senior show),

auditions for Sugar (musical) and more. Perhaps most exciting is that we will again be hosting Derik Nelson’s Take Chances Tour! With new music and old favorites, Derik brings a full pop-rock concert to Liberty complete with concert lighting, sound and videos. While most

known as the lead guitarist on the hit show Glee, Derik is an accomplished artist in his own right and his concert is a wonderful blend of cover music and original songs. Check him out on YouTube. You don’t have to worry about sending your children to this concert … and you will want to come yourself. He concert is Saturday, November 8 at 7 pm. Tickets start at $15. See Playmakers website for more details!

The Public Art and Design Academy is at it again! Seniors in the PADA Internship class have approached the Brentwood Arts Commission to propose another public art project! This year the students will be painting a mural on the Marsh Creek trail where it crosses under Sand Creek and O’Hara.

In other news, the academy students will be taking a field trip this October to see artist Eric Powell’s studio in Berkeley. Powell is the artist responsible for the mosaic work on the city fountain, the animal designs on the City Park’s fence and some of the animals in Veterans

Over 1200 Liberty High School students attended our Homecoming Dance on Sept. 13. They danced to the sounds of D.J. Hightop. Our Homecoming Queen Idara Idtka sang an impromptu solo to the crowd. A big thank you to all the parents, teachers, and staff for supporting the dance.

Sick & Sign Out Procedures Do you need your child dismissed early from class for any of these reasons?  · A Medical Appointment· A DMV Appointment· A Funeral· Going out of Town? We have several ways to either get your student released for an appointment or to clear absences for your student:  1. Call the Attendance Office @ 634-3521, ext: 5205, 5561, or 5227 early enough in the day as to avoid your being late for your appointments.  2. Write a note and bring to the attendance office before school (or between periods) to have a Town Pass ready for your appointment time.  3. Email us at: [email protected] and send us this information: WHO is your student (their name), WHEN they were absent and WHY they were absent. This email can also serve as a written note for that appointment dismissal or to excuse any of their absences. The best time to call to clear any absences is the night before or early in the morning. For those students who have PE during the time you want them out, this earlier call can alleviate a long wait.  If your student is sick and wants to come home, have them tell their teacher and they should be released to go up to the HEALTH CLERK where they will sign in to sick bay, then call home.

Grade Level Positive Climate Meetings

Mr. Walsh began the meeting with tips on being a successful student. The Assistant Principals’, Athletic Director, and Activities Director covered information regarding testing, graduation requirements, and school safety, where to get academic support, school activities and athletics.

The National Honor Society is selling Liberty Spirit Shirts for $15. You can't have too many shirts! We have many spirit days throughout the year, you need some variety! Wear a different Liberty shirt every day for a week! All profits from the shirts go to scholarships for NHS members. You can order from me in N-18. Checks are payable to Liberty High School.

Thanks! Margaret Cocksedge

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDENTS HELP MARSH CREEKThe AP Environmental students have received grants from Dow Chemical, Lawrence Livermore Lab and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to evaluate the health of Marsh Creek.  The Friends of Marsh Creek and the Delta Science Center are providing assistance in determining sampling locations and evaluating data generated by the students.  Students have all learned how to look at macro invertebrates like dragonfly larvae and crawfish by attending a field trip at East Bay Regional Park at Big Break in Oakley.  Students recently cleaned up trash at Marsh Creek and evaluated the types of garbage put into Marsh Creek.  Students will be doing testing all school year and reporting their findings to these stakeholder groups.
