Banned Books Week, SePT. 30-Oct. 6 CELEBRATE THE FREEDOM TO READ!

Since 1982, a united community of librari-ans, booksellers, publishers, journalists, and readers has designated one week a year to bring attention to the value of free and open access to information and expose threats to that freedom from book challenges and bans.

Recent and persistent challenges to books include:

•ttyl; ttfn; l8r, g8r (series) by Lauren Myra-cle

•The Color of Earth (series) by Kim Dong Hwa

•The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins

•The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian by Sherman Alexie

•Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

•To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

•The Color Purple by Alice Walker

•The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

Over 11,300 books have

been challenged since

1982.*

Join the Library in supporting free access to information and the rights of authors and readers by reading a challenged book. Be an intellectual freedom fighter.

TELL US WHAT YOU WANT!

Even though you now have access to over 500,000 titles through CIN there still may be things you want to read that no library owns or that you think we should own at Liberty Lake.

If that’s the case, you need to

make a purchase suggestion!

1. Go to www.catalog.cin.bywatersolutions.com and search for the book you want. If you can’t find it, enter your library card number and password here:

2 . Find the “my purchase suggestions” tab in the menu on the left hand side of the screen.

3. Click the link to make a “New purchase suggestion.”

4. Enter the title and fill out the form with as much other information as you can.

5. Click the “Submit Your Suggestion” button to let the library know what you want.

You should receive an email once we process your suggestion, or you can log into your account to check its status at any time.

If you want to borrow a book from a library outside CIN, go to the library home page and follow the link to “Request an item from a non-CIN library”

HARVEST AND HALLOWEEN BOOKS FOR KIDS

LLML/SCLD Agreement SOON! On October 16th the Trustees of the Spo-kane County Library District are expected to sign an agreement with the Liberty Lake Municipal Library that will clear the way for services to Liberty Lake citizens. Last month the LLML Trustees approved and recom-mended the agreement to City Council, who then passed it on September 18th.

This agreement will allow Liberty Lake city residents to receive a free, non-resident Spokane County Library District card with certain restrictions: LL city residents will not

be able to use the ebooks/audio books ser-vice and certain other databases for which the County Library pays a subscription.

Most importantly, items borrowed from SCLD must be picked up & returned to a SCLD library. LLML has no means of checking in SCLD items or transporting them to a SCLD library.

It is expected that this long-sought relation-ship between LLML and the SCLD will take effect in November.

Watch for the official beginning date!
