Issue 40 March - April 2013

Dear Reader,

Welcome to Leyton Life, a jam packed edition with the usual competitions from the Picturehouse, and Leyton Life giveaway of a £20 gift voucher. There are some great articles for you to read and activities for you to try out for yourself. Plus the normal crossword, Sudoku, wordsearch etc…

Leyton Life is an independent community magazine, covering local events and issues. But there will be an emphasis on self- help articles with practical workouts. Those of you, who have been following the magazine for a number of years, would have read many “gloomy” articles about the state of affairs on a local and global scale which we have no direct control over. No matter how democratic our Country is supposed to be!

It is now time to start making changes for ourselves, our friends and family our community. Articles will not be promoting magic pills or potions but techniques. A holistic approach is the way forward and if performed properly without the regular side-effects, such as hangover, obesity, maxed credit card etc… The only warning is these are not quick fixes but require a bit of time, and dedication, the results however can be everlasting.

Amazing feedback from Clare on p12 having received a prayer, she is certain that there has been a major breakthrough for her. Agape Café p13 offer free prayers only upon request, so why not pop along check it out and if you feel like the need of spiritual assistance just ask. Howard Carter is going to be contributing regular articles first one is about our Guardian Angel p16. A small exercise for you to try in order to contact your Guardian Angel, highly recommended to those that a cynical. Before embarking on any activities you should always place a spiritual protection around yourself, the purpose is to prevent negative energies penetrating through. There are various exercises available but the quickest one would be to recite The Lord’s Prayer. Many long and short versions available, this is now seen as a Universal prayer in our modern society. As always please write in if you have anything to share, what maybe going on in your neighbourhood, work, if you have been praying or been prayed for, had an angelic experience with any feedback.

£20 competition only requires you to send in your name, address and where you picked up the copy of Leyton Life from. Email:[email protected] £20 in subject field postal entries or if you wish to text info on the left.

Wishing you all the best during March-April till next time take care.

Lent is traditionally a time for Christians to be moderate, fast or to give up something which is done on a regular basis. Many believe by doing this they will gain Gods holy blessing. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday 13th February and continues until Easter Sunday 31st March. For Christians it is a time for reflection and repentance of sins before the Easter Celebration. The period of Lent is said to replicate the 40 days of sacrifice and temptation Jesus spent in the desert.

I have asked four local residents about their experiences and thoughts during Lent...

Gail 29yrs works in retail - Gave up chocolate “It is difficult to stop eating chocolates but im persevering. I feel by denying myself

something I really enjoy makes me re-valuate my priorities on what’s really important in life”.

Alex 38yrs a builder - Stopped eating red meat“I feel revitalised and healthier by not eating red meat. This experience is making me more aware of my inner strength and that I do have a very strong willpower.”

Kathy 40yrs housewife - Gave up smoking “I had wanted to quit for a while and as Lent for me means the start of a new beginning, I took the opportunity to make a much needed change. Whenever I feel weakened, my faith in prayer keeps me going.”

Ella 32 works in admin - Stopped eating Crisps“For the past 10 years I have given something up during lent as I believe in the concept and I like the feeling of achievement”.

Many people use January as a time to give up bad habits and embark on new projects, statistically the trend never lasts. New Year’s resolutions are supressed before the month has even ended, most commonly because of the weather, and lack of day-light. Easter time should be the new January…so to speak. Start off with a spring clean p14, then onto new developments, give up on things you need to on a physical and mental level. Then embark on a to do list. Start off with small things, and gradually work your way up to bigger things. This could bring you back to things you may have started a while ago and never finished. This could be something small

and inexpensive such as drawing, reading, exercising, and a short course before you start onto things like travelling the World, opening an empire or something! From a Biblical perspective Easter is about the resurrection of Jesus Christ.Resurrection itself is a form of revival, restoration, renewal, resurgence, and renaissance therefore it makes more sense to make personal changes at this time. Plus there is no-added pressure as not many will be aware that you are trying something new.Let me know if you do take any of this on board, as feedback is always great it can help to see which direction to move in. Enjoy the Easter celebrations however you feel fit.

Happy Easter!

I had the pleasure of going to Heathers, Angel hearts and healing fayre in February. I had a few treatments which were great; I then noticed in the corner a really good energy which felt very pure. I gravitated towards the feeling and there was a lady and a gentleman on a stall selling some crystals. There was a small box with a label stating “free prayer requests” with some paper and pens.

The lady called Yasmin was so lovely, she resonated a beautiful energy and was non judgemental. Yasmin said I could write my prayer on a piece of paper and put it in her prayer box and she would pray for me. I wrote down my prayers and put them in the box.

Yasmin also said she would pray for me there and then on that day if I wanted her too. I had an appointment for an Indian head massage so I had to go. I have been through some challenges recently and some dark thoughts and some psychic attacks which I thought I had shaken off with my own healing knowledge to no avail. I instinctively “knew” that I still had some kind of ill thoughts attached to my aura and I needed the right person to shift this energy which was a low vibration making me feel sad , lonely and ill.

I went back to Yasmin and she said the prayer. A massive emotional release occurred. I felt it in my solar plexus and it lifted so quickly and came out as a massive cry. I have not had a cry in a while and it felt really good. Yasmin had the ability to connect to the source and direct the energy towards where I needed it in the form of words. Words are so powerful when the right person directs them. The cry made me feel lighter but I could not stop crying.

The gentleman Howard, on the stall came into my aura and put his hands on my shoulders to calm me. I saw in my mind’s eye a massive aquamarine sword. I knew it was Archangel Michael. I got over being ashamed of my psychic ability and the fact I can “see”. So I told the gentleman healer what I could see in my

mind’s eye. He showed me what he had used as a fragrance before the healing. It was an angel spray called Archangel Michael. I went home and felt tired, it is now five days after the cathartic event and I feel back into my flow. I feel that there are no dark energies trying to weigh me down and that I am in tune again with my higher self and the source.

Sometimes I think dark forces from other people’s thoughts and energies can interfere with our own personal radio frequency. I had been working in a job I hated and the energy did not resonate with me. I had only left the job for a few weeks, and carried the remnants of the dark energy I had absorbed there from some people who participated in ill wishing towards me. There was jealousy there and lots of corporate competition, I did not feel right there but I needed the money.

Yasmin’s healing prayer has taken away the dark energy I absorbed in that situation. I feel a lot lighter now and back to normal. Sometimes we need help from people who walk in the light. I have always thought I can do everything alone and heal myself, but sometimes we need another healer to help us shift into high gear.

Thanks to Yasmin’s faith in prayer I have gone back to my happy self. I am so grateful people like Heather put on fayres so that people like me can meet like minds. The more people meet in these scenarios the better the world will become. We need to share our healing to make the world a better place. We will get there but it just takes time. If you feel out of sorts and like something or someone is invading your personal energy field go and see Yasmin, she and others like her will pray for you and help you shift the energy and move on. You will be drawn to the right person for prayer/treatment. The power of prayer is one of the oldest techniques used and it works.

I wish you healing and love. .

Prayers and healings are fulfilled by the

spirit of truth.

We mortals are the vessels.

Regrettably not everyone is working

for the highest-good, this may not

always be deliberate.

Best thing to do is go with your

Instinct, gut, solar plexus, feelings,

pray whatever you may call it, listen to

your senses. If it feels right then ask the

person for prayer/treatment if not steer

clear of them.

“The truth can make you free”

If you can follow the works of this

SIDMOUTH PARK , LEYTON – a little local history.

Historical information has been gleaned from the Waltham Forest Archives for the interestof local residents who live close to or nearby the Park.

In 1878 the land was, or had last been used as, watercress beds, being close to the Fillebrook (old Phille Brooke) stream. The stream rises in Upper Walthamstow and now flows subterraneously via Lower Walthamstow and Leyton to the River Lea. The ‘dip’ which is Sidmouth Park may be a natural feature owing more to the contours of the land where once the stream weaved its way above ground, eventually joining up with the Dagenham Brook near Ruckholt Road Bridge.

However, on 8th October 1940, a High Explosive bomb caused significant damage to property and killed a total of 5 people living at 18, 22 and 26 Sidmouth Road. A V2 rocket landed on nearby Huxley Road on 12th December 1944 and caused catastrophic damage utterly destroying many houses on both sides. It is surmised that both the damage created in WWII and the Fillebrook ‘dip’ have compounded to create the formation of the land which is now the Park.

Our knowledge of the list of strikes by bombs and rockets in the area is, at present, limited. Wartime censorship and the distraction of war have left us with reduced information. However, the High Explosive bomb which fell in Sidmouth Road is numbered 355;8.10.40, HE and that of Huxley Road numbered 792; 1.12.44: Ex.V.11, i.e. exploded V2 rocket. Both are indicated on the Leyton bomb map held at the Vestry House Museum.

By 1882, the street initially called Faraday Road had houses built and was inhabited. It was part of the development of The British Land Company in which the streets were named after scientists: Buckland, Faraday, Huxley, Lindley, Murchison, Sedgwick and Tyndall.

From 1899, Faraday Road became Sidmouth Road and Upper Faraday became Dawlish Road.

1 to 10 Faraday Cottages consecutively became 2 to 20 Sidmouth Road even numbers. The name Sidmouth Road is said to have been chosen by Simon Westcott, then Surveyor to Leyton Council, as he originated from Devonshire.

Houses in Sidmouth Road were prone to flooding being so close, if not over, the Fillebrook and in 1904, the Council Surveyor recommended enlargement of the brick culvert in Sidmouth Road to alleviate flooding at the High Road end. The 3’ diameter pipes laid in the late 19c to tame the Fillebrook became inadequate to hold the amount of water resulting from excessive rainfall. It took over half a century for Thames Water to lay long pipes beneath the road to drain off surplus water. In spite of the above precautions, some local cellars are still prone to flooding – nature always wins!

The middle section of Sidmouth Road was demolished around 1973 and Sidmouth Park was created. A short section of Sidmouth Road remains off Leyton High Road.

A feature of Sidmouth Road was, for many years, the Alice Burrell Centre, named in honour of a previous Mayor of Leyton and served as a community centre. However, the centre closed in December 2009 and was replaced by the newly built Sidmouth House used by the Council to provide classes and activities for adults with learning disabilities.

The park offers itself as a play and rest area for all ages. It is a well-frequented park which seeks to provide more community events on a regular basis and the formation of Friends of Sidmouth Park is one way to promote and preserve a small green oasis in an urban landscape.

Should you be interested in becoming a Friend or knowing more about this project, please email: [email protected] ‘phone 020 8539 9474 (Doreen).

Maybe you wonder about whether you really believe in Angels - I want to remind you that THEY BELIEVE IN YOU!!! Each issue I will look at Angels & how to connect with them & bring them into our lives, starting with the one who is closest to us - our Guardian Angel.

We have at least one Guardian Angel who is with us from our birth & has indeed accompanied us throughout past lives too. They walk by our side without interfering in our lives, unless at rare moments when we may be in danger. Otherwise they wait patiently for us to contact them - thereby respecting our free will and giving us the opportunity to make our own ‘mistakes’ & learn from them.

So how do you connect with to your Guardian Angel? It is helpful, especially at the beginning, to create a quiet time in which to do so - switch off phones, sit or lie with your spine upright to help the flow of energy & listen to your breathing - observe the in breath & the out breath. Do not try to change your breathing, just observe it. You will soon notice that you come out of your everyday thinking &become more & more relaxed. Allow this to happen all by itself - if thoughts start to come in - gently bring your focus back to your breathing and notice how the breathing slows down & becomes deeper & deeper. Ask for your Guardian Angel to draw close & be open to receiving. You may be given images or colours, you may hear a quiet voice of guidance from within or outside, you may be given healing &sense it as energy - cold, warm or tingly moving through you., you may have a sense of knowing the answers to issues that have been troubling you at an instinctual level. Don’t worry if you don’t seem to get anything at first, be patient with yourself! And remember - your Guardian Angel loves you totally & unconditionally - they never give negative messages or derogatory comments & if you do get anything that does not feel right to you, dismiss it from your mind & reassert your intention to communicate with your Guardian Angel.

I have completed a 2 year training in Archangel

Enlightenment with Hazel Raven, author of The Angel Bible http://www.hazelraven.com On her website you will find free e books to download & lots of other interesting material. I do healing sessions with angels on a one-to-one basis or as absent healing and I am happy to respond personally to any enquiries about angel work, [email protected] or phone/text 07957 144849.

I also run workshops in Walthamstow on working with angels, the next one will be “Introduction to Working with Angels” Sunday April 10th 10.00 - 4.00. Here you will receive an attunement from your Guardian Angel which will help you to experience Angels for yourself, including drawing closer to your own Guardian Angel. You will also awaken the Angel within with the help of Gabriel.

Archangel Michael will be there with protection for us and Archangel Chamuel will teach you how to love and accept yourself & others unconditionally.
