LexJet World of Displays

a guide to display products and hardware

LexJet World of Displays

Welcome to LexJet’s World of Displays. This information package is a combination of feedback from over 17,000 LexJet customers and

the expertise of the LexJet Graphic Specialists. The aim of the World of Displays is to convey our knowledge of display graphics to

everyone in the industry. By sharing this valuable knowledge, a common ground for graphics production can be established and we can virtually eliminate common graphic failures such as tunneling,

delaminating, edge lift, and mishandling. Each display recommendation has been designed to be durable, efficient in

production, attractive, easily transported, and made of the highest quality materials available.

Tips & TricksSome helpful hints for no-error production.

• Ink Drying Time

– It is important for the inks to be completely dry before laminating. A good way to know if the print is ready to be laminated, is to make sure it is dry to the touch. If the ink is still tacky, allow more dry time. Printer manufacturers recommend waiting 24 hours.

World of Displays

Tips & TricksSome helpful hints for no-error production.

• Adhesive Cure Time

– It is important to allow ample time for your adhesives to cure before trimming and rolling your graphics. Insufficient cure time can lead to poor bond strength, causing tunneling, delaminating, and edge lift. We recommend allowing at least 2 hours for the adhesive to cure before trimming and rolling your graphics. A full 24 hours of cure time will yield the best bond.

World of Displays

Tips & TricksSome helpful hints for no error production.

• Cutting & Trimming

– When trimming graphics, if possible, you should always cut through the softer material first. Be sure to use a freshly sharpened blade and trim the graphics with a straight edge on tempered glass. This strategy will yield the most consistent results.

World of Displays

Tips & TricksSome helpful hints for no error production.

• Rolling Graphics

– Always roll your graphics with the thinnest material on the outside. If the materials are of the same thickness, you should roll them the same way every time (do not roll them in the reverse direction to make them lay flat).

– We recommend you roll your graphics with a minimum 12 inch diameter to minimize potential handling damage.

World of Displays

Tips & TricksSome helpful hints for no-error production.

• Using A Sled

– Using a sled while laminating will help ensure even pressure across the web. Sleds should be constructed of a hard substance such as Masonite, acrylic, or aluminum. Apply a release liner to your sled to prevent adhesive build up. The release liner will allow you to clean adhesive off easily.

World of Displays

Tips & TricksSome helpful hints for no-error production.

• Eliminating Curl

– If you experience curl when applying pressure sensitive laminates or backers and the tension on your pull rollers is minimal, reduce the speed of your take-up reel. This strategy will lessen the tension created when the release liner is being pulled from the roll. Less pressure on your laminating rollers can also help reduce curl.

World of Displays

Tips & TricksSome helpful hints for no-error production.

• Use Films As The Printing Substrate

– Fibrous papers do not have the durability required for rollable graphics. Due to stresses involved with rolling the graphics, the paper will eventually split down the middle, ruining the display. Splitting paper can be avoided by using ink jet films such as polycarbonate, polyester, and polypropylene. Paper also has a tendency to retain curl more than films.

World of Displays

ConstructionHow to build your tradeshow graphics

In the following section, we will describe preferred methods to produce your tradeshow graphics. For each application, quality, durability, ease of use, efficiency in production, and performance consistency have been considered. We limit the number of steps and materials wherever possible.

The construction suggestions are in descending order of preference for the quality, durability, ease of use, efficiency in production, and performance consistency.

Pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) are optimal due to their consistency. However, low melt thermal adhesive options are included in the choices as well.
