IF THE SHOE

The first stop for the new TOMS pop up flagship is San Francisco. San Francisco has a very diverse and unique group of residents, much like the many different shoes TOMS creates. The most valuable luxury, is one that cannot be replicated which is the main idea driving this space. Each person who enters this store adds to the history of the space by writing on the chalkboard displays, and each pair of shoes sold during the week is represented by the wall of shoe boxes in the window display. The materials used are all reclaimed or of recycled content, adding to the history of this store. The green wall brings the sense of the outdoor environment to the space, reminding people of the eco- responsibilities we share. Interaction with the past and present consumers creates a unique and informative shopping experience, using the notes people wrote about the shoes they tried on.

MAIN PRODUCT DISPLAY AND SEATING

This design holds one bottle of each Bordeaux and Burgundy. It is meant to hold your most treasured bottles, keeping them safe until the occasion arises when you will enjoy them. Made of poplar, to create this unique shape and intricate and precise detailing I used Rhino3D to design and CNC the form. I then used the router to cut and shape the wood to my design, and filled in the top shapes of the bottles with colored epoxy. Enjoy.

I am a tactile person. If I do not like what something feels like, no matter how beautiful it looks, It will not appeal to me. I designed a chair that is not only interesting to look at but extremely relaxing to sit in. When seated in this chair you feel as though you are being embraced by your favorite comfy sweater. I collaborated with several individuals to bring my design to life. I worked closely with several avid knitters who helped me create the unique knitting pattern for this chair, as well as a local metal smith to create the skeleton. Come, and stay a while.

RESIDENT ROOM

MID-SENSORYMODERN

When designing a residence for patients with mild Alzheimer’s, I took a considerable amount of time researching the disease and what to focus on while designing for them. I created a simple, fresh design for the residents, with a bit of mid-century flair to remind them times past and to look into the future. A spacious central courtyard includes a large fireplace social space, and raised garden beds for gardening activities, fresh flowers, and produce for their cafe.

While researching for this Alzheimer’s center, I started with exploring the senses of precedent buildings. One building I researched was the Maxxi Museum, in Rome. There is a heightened sense of sight in this space above all other senses. After initial research, I went on to design and create my own interpretation of this building. The outcome was a concrete light box which casts unique shadows and reflections against the metal walls.

ECOMACHINE

For this project in Canary Wharf, I teamed up with a partner to design a mixed use office building that addressed the existing conditions of the site. Located along the river, this site has adequate sunlight as there are no buildings to block the western facade as well as a continuous northwestern breeze. The program includes the headquarters for Square Circle, a creative brand agency, a restaurant, and space for four other tenants. To address the existing sites conditions, we designed a building that maximized the site’s space, sunlight harvesting, wind collection, and natural ventilation. In short, we created an Eco-Machine.

As one of California’s fastest growing wine regions, Carmel Valley was calling for a venue where all of the local wineries could come together to educate the public about the wine industry, and I answered. I took an existing site and created a fully functional vineyard and winery, as well as an educational facility, and event space. My concept stemmed from research of wine making and how wine is created from the raw and unaltered grape and transformed into something refined and sophisticated.

CRUSH BRANDING

Another aspect of my design was the venue’s branding. Simple, iconic and fresh, I sought something that would stand apart from other area wineries. I created the logo, wine labels for the winery’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, business cards, and reusable retail packaging.

Experience. Educate. Enjoy.

While studying ceramics, I was interested in exploring the many techniques and purposes of this art. I experimented with wheel based throwing, hand building, and slip casting, as well as gas firing, salt and soda firings, and wood firing. All of these adventures in clay helped me develop a sense of fearlessness when it comes to taking risks, and I found that hard work and dedication can yield interesting results.

SELF-MADE

Photography is an avenue to reflect my present world from a new perspective, affording me the opportunity to view the present through many different filters. I abandon the cares and realities of the present, and delve into a new, tunnel-visioned world. I work with several different cameras, each to suit a different mood. I use my Diana film camera when I’m feeling adventurous, and my digital camera when I like more control of the photo’s outcome.

Bar Architects, a San Francisco based firm brings its West Coast vibes to the Midwest with their expansion to Cincinnati. While researching this firm I Iearned they strive to design and build uniquely sustainable buildings. The firm was also very interested in restorative design, not only for the earth, but for their clients. I took this idea and created a sustainable office, with maximum recycled materials, adequate sunlight, and a variety of spaces to collaborate, work, and socialize.
