    November 2013

Here we are in November and many of our snowbirds have already leftor will be leaving us soon. Dont forget to think of us in whatever hot

and sunny climate you are in. We will be missing you.

October was a fun filled month highlighted with the State President

Dwayne and First Lady Barbara Guys visit.

For the past five years we have planned theState Presidents visit on the same night as

the Variety Show because this is a guaranteed

great time. And this year was no exception. To a sold out house the cast and crew of the Legends Variety show out-

did themselves again. The talent we have in our Lodge never ceases toamaze meI am in awe. Lina and Steve Hussey, Lysanne Doucette and the rest of the Legends

put on a fantastic show that will be talked about for months. You are the best and Thank You for

making our Lodge look goodI was very proud to be Exalted Ruler that night.

October was the Local, District, and State Soccer Shoot events. And I am very

happy to announce that Lewiston Lodge has a young man who has made it throug

all these, and will be representing the Lodge in the Boys U-10 division in the Re-gional Soccer Shoot against six other States in Auburn MA on November 9th.

Congratulations and good luck to Jay Hawkes, grandson of Elk Bonita Childs, weare all rooting for you.

November is Veterans Month and as Elks we celebrate our Veterans throughout th

month. Please remember our Vets on their special day November 11thand all month long, because

we as Americans have a lot to be thankful for because of sacrifices the brave men and women who

have and are still fighting for our freedom have made. Also please come to the Lodge on Novembe

24thfor the Flag Burning Ceremony (see From the First Lady on page 2 for more information)it is a very

symbolic service that is real cool to see.

Friday November 15this new member initiation night. Please come by and say hi to your new

brother and sister Elks as well as have some food and listen to great music. Friday November 22nd

will be Turkey bowlinghit some bowling pins with a Cornish Game Henyou could win a turkeyand have a blastit is really quite funny.

November is hunting season and I am very happy about that, whereas Maureen is not. So if you are

a hunter be safe and good luck, if you are the significant other of a hunter, pray they get their deer th

first day so you can stop worrying.

    Happy Thanksgiving

    Yours in Elkdom

    From the First Lady

    Welcome November,

This month the Elks celebrate the Men and Women who have served our country so gallantly. The Elks have a very touching Flag

Retirement (burning) ceremony that shows the due respect to our flag, the symbol that so many men and women have served and

    fought for.

    When: November 24th

    Where: Lewiston Elks Lodge

Time: 12:00 noon Ceremony (this ceremony lasts about 20 min)Dress: Veterans and service members may come in uniform but others can wear whatever they want. This is an outside event so

    dress accordingly.

Why: There are many flags that are disposed of improperly and without the respect they deserve.

Price: FreeFood: The ceremony will be followed by a free Lunch. If you are interested, bring a dish.

Other: If you or a friend have a Flag that you would like properly disposed of, please

bring it with you or by the Lodge

and it will be included in the Ceremony.

From the SecretaryWe have a couple of bylaw changes that need to be

acted upon. It appears that they had been read at

meetings last year as well as published in the news-

letter. However, as sometimes happens, due toevents within the lodge, the changes were never

voted upon by the membership. The changes will be

read on the floor at the last meeting of October andvoted on at the first meeting of November. The first

change concerns the reinstatement fee; it was recom-mended in July 2012 that we waive the reinstatement

fee for any member who had been dropped in the

previous 5 years. The change was read on the floorand published but never voted upon. The second

change concerns the adoption of the short form ritual

for meetings and initiation. While this has been

voted on at a membership meeting, no evidence ofthe change being published can be located. See the

insert for the bylaw changes .

As we enter into the holiday season and begin to

think about resolutions for 2014, I would ask you to

take a moment to consider becoming more active in

our Lodge. I am including a list of committees andthe current chairperson. If you would like more in-

formation, please contact myself, ER Mike, or the

committee chair. There are many ways to help out

writing a letter, making a phone call, suggesting anactivity and some of these only take a few minutes.

The list is printed below; you may wish to cut it out

and post it on your refrigerator door.

The first Sunday of December is Elk Memorial Ser-

vice. This is a day where we gather to remember our

deceased Brother and Sister Elks. I am the chairper-

son for the event and could certainly use some assis-

tance in planning. Please let me know if you canhelp.

    Yours in Elkdom,

    John Wyman

From the TreasurerHello Lewiston Elks #371 members!

Some of you have seen me around the

Lodge for the last year. I have been theTreasurer since late September of the Kath

leen Cotterly fiscal year and remained to

work with the Mike Aube suite. I haveenjoyed this work and the best part is hav-

ing money to pay our bills! Through the

efforts of all the dedicated volunteers, we

have been able to tackle some pretty hefty

payables like insurances, city taxes, ac-

countant fees and many more. It feels gooto see our accounts payable reduced to a

    manageable number. We are half-way

through this year and we're doing GREAT

On another note, there will be something

special occurring this month: MARKYOUR CALENDARS! LET "THE MED

    CARE MAN" HELP YOU REVIEW

    YOUR MEDICARE OPTIONS. Rick

George, "The Medicare Man," will present

a seminar on Medicare, Tuesday, Novem-ber 12 at 6:30 p.m. Rick is an Independen

    Agent, representing Aetna, Martin's Point

and United Healthcare's Medicareplans. Come and let him tell you what 201

changes will mean for you and let him help

you find a plan that works best for you and

your health. There is no charge for this

event, folks, and it's not costing the Lodge

anything. Please come. This is importantfor those of us who are retired and those of

you who may be retiring soon. Munchies

will be available and the bar will open afte

    the meeting.

    Sincerely, Marge Carter, Treasurer
