Lewiston Elks Lodge #371

NEWSLETTER

November was quite a busy month for us. On November 5th, Maureen and I went to the Rock-land Lodge for The Grand Exalted Ruler Millard Pickering and First Lady Suzanne’s Maine State visit. It was a pleasure speaking with them about our wonderful State of Maine, our Lewiston Lodge and of course Elkdom in general. We had a really nice time. On November 9th, Maureen and I went to Auburn MA to cheer on our

State Soccer Shoot champion in the U-8 division representing the Lewiston Elks Lodge, Jay Hawes (Grandson of Bonita Childs). Jay did a fantastic job and we are very proud of him. I know we will see him again next year.

On November 15th, we initiated five new Lewiston Elks. Welcome Lorraine Beaulieu, Geoffrey Caron, Robert Davis, Rita Ouellette and Richard Parent. I am looking forward to seeing each of you again at the Lodge. Of course our annual Turkey Bowling on November 22nd was a huge success. Kudos to Paul Gagne and Roger Paradis for the form and style winning them first and second place.

On November 24th we held a Flag Retirement Ceremony. Although the crowd was small we were able to retire 24 American Flags. Thank you to all who participated and to all who brought flags in for us to retire. It was a meaningful ceremony and I am happy we were able to do it.

Our Friday night dinner and Karaoke have become the place to be. Each week we post on facebook and send out e-mails saying what wonderful meal will be served and which DJ will be at the Lodge. Those of you who are regulars know how much fun it has been—to those of you who have not stopped by, come in and see what you are missing. Lastly, this holiday season we are very lucky to be home with our families and our friends. Please remember in your thought and prayers the brave men and women who are away from home serving our county. I wish each and everyone of them a quick and safe return. Merry Christmas, Yours in Elkdom Michael R. Aube Exalted Ruler

From the “First Lady”

Happy Holidays,

This time of year brings many things to us, snow (although not to early please), Christmas with family and friends, a New Year, and one of the most touching Elk ceremonies that I have ever seen--The Elk Memorial Service. The first Sunday in December is designated by Grand Lodge as Elks Memorial Day in which all the brother and sister Elks who have left us over the past year are individually remembered. Every Elk Lodge across the United States on this day holds the same ceremony honoring there departed brother and sisters. This is not a private ceremony; it is a celebration of life with family and friends invited. When I lost my Dad five years ago, it was very comforting to know his brother and sister Elks cared about and missed him too.

When: December 1

Where: Lewiston Elks Lodge Time: 10:00 am Ceremony (this ceremony lasts about 40 min) Dress: The Officers will be in Tuxedo but wear whatever is comfortable Why: To honor the departed Brother and Sister Elks Price: Free Food: The ceremony will be followed by a free Brunch. If you are interested, bring a dish.

Maureen

From the Secretary

Thank you for supporting me and your Elks Lodge and best wishes for a

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Yours in Elkdom, John Wyman

From the Treasurer Hello Elks Brothers and Sisters! Just re-porting on our payables, this time around. I was putting a few figures together the other day and this is what I found: other than the mortgage and insurance pay-ments due next year, we owe only a little over $900! Do you believe it? Paying bills is so easy when the funds are com-ing in. I ask you, therefore, to keep on supporting your Lodge. Come in on Saturday, for instance, for a drink and a chat. We have old programs on the grill room TV. Remember the Ponderosa and Mayberry RFD? Friday nights are an absolute blast. Check it out! And who can't afford $10 for the newsletter booster? Also, let's not forget our dues. Bingo on Wednesday is well attended. Join us for the fun and great lunches from the Bingo kitchen including burgers, soups, pastries and .50 coffee. Well, that's it for now. Hope you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. Christmas is fast approaching. Spend wisely, drive care-fully and let's not forget what Christmas is really all about. Marge Carter, Treasurer

Bingo Concession

We are looking for volunteers to help out in the kitchen on Wednesdays during Bingo from 10 am to 2 pm. If you would like to help, please email Scott Bussiere at [email protected]. We are hoping to find enough volun-teers to be able to schedule each person only once a month. Anything you could do to help would be much appreciated . Thank you in advance, Scott
