WELCOME TO LEWIS FARMS FEMALE SALEWelcome to the 2011 Leading Ladies Sale. While selecting open calves and bred heifers for this event, many thoughts and ideas came to mind. Choosing young stock while bearing in mind our own replacements yet providing the maximum amount of quality for our customers selection. When the hammer drops, I can firmly say both age categories are holding nothing back in flesh and in pedigree.

Looking back on our last female sale, held in 2003, many things have changed and grown. Our papered herd has doubled in size, calving 900 cows today. Roughly half in the spring and half in January. With this gradual increase in numbers our strive for quality and consistency remain unchanged.

We, as always and never more than now, are optimistic with the beef business and the potential future ahead. Simmental and Angus have been the breeds, are still the breeds and will continue to be the dominant forces in the beef business.

Welcome to our Leading Ladies Female Sale. It’s been 8 years since our last female sale and will be a number till our next. Jordan and Kyle have dug whole heartedly into our program. Kyle & Jordan’s enthusiasm in this sale has inspired even an old dog like me. In the big picture of the global beef industry all the signs are pointed in the right direction for stability with profitability for the future. I would like to thank Frank and Heather Misek for their years of effort in our operation, and wish them and their family well in Lethbridge at the government research farm. A special thank you to Randy Sanderson, for helping us out, your stockmanship and determination during your stay in Alberta is much appreciated and respected. Randy, Debbie and their family are from Spud Island Farms in P.E.I.From everyone on the farm we look forward to hosting you on Thursday December 1st. Our cow herd is who we are. They define us; they are our backbone and our production machines. Without our cow herd there would be no bull sale on the last Saturday in February every year, there would be no replacement females to carry on traditions and keep up with the current markets and trends. Needless to say we are extremely proud of our cow herd. The sale on December 1 will consist of the best female progeny from our cow herd; the top breds and heifer calves and the very best matings from our embryo bank. We literally have held nothing back and I hope that shows in the quality of the offering. We have done the catalogue in cow families instead of sire groups for the easy ability to see the strength behind these young females and what they were bred to become. We have spent a lot of time this summer picturing, not only the sale cattle, but our cowherd as well. They always say a picture is worth a thousand words so we will let the cattle speak for themselves through their pictures. We have bred the yearling heifers the way we would have if we weren’t having the sale and we strive on making sure we use super calving ease bulls that still throw in a touch of performance. The heifer calves are a representation of some of our new and up coming herd sires . There is also a handful to represent what our two year olds are capable of. We stand behind these heifers as we do our bulls and our commitment to you, our customer, is just as strong. It has been a few years since Lewis Farms has had a fall female sale, but they have steadily promoted and developed one of the elite herds in the livestock industry. TERMS & CONDITIONSTerms - The terms of the sale are cash, cheque or credit card at the sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Should any purchaser fail to settle for their purchase, Lewis Farms reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage, either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released.

Disputes - In case of disputes, bidding will be re-opened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

Purchaser’s Risk - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time.

Announcements - Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

Registry of Cattle - The proper Registration or Recordation paper, as the case may be will be transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made.

Settlement - No incidental expenses such as feed, care, A.I. signing fees, interest, veterinary charges, etc. will be charged by either party when making settlement. If the seller is successful in proving the animal in question to be a breeder, then said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser. Should the seller fail to prove the animal a breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. Should a dispute arise over the quality of a replacement animal, Lewis Farms will appoint a mediator.

Accidents - Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comforts of buyers, neither Lewis Farms, the auctioneer, or association assumes any responsibility in this matter, and disclaims any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accidents or loss of property.

Rights and Obligations - The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two.

DELIVERYWe will coordinate and assist in the delivery arrangements. American sold cattle will be transported to the border at our cost and the rest will be arranged and payed for by the buyer. There will be a $100 discount per head for customers taking females home on sale day.

JUNIOR DISCOUNTThere will be a 5% discount on heifer calves for Junior Simmental, Angus and 4H members.Registration papers will be transfered to Junior members.

CHOICE LOTS AND INTERESTSWe have not indicated in the catalogue which females we will be retaining an interest in. We will know by sale day and it will be indicated on the supplement sheets and on our website. We may also decide to sell a few more heifers as choice lots come sale time.

It’s only fitting that Amber holds the first page in the Leading Lady’s catalogue. She is 12 yrs old and still rules the pastures here at LFE as the greatest female we may have ever bred! From her depth of body to massive rib shape to her sheer amount of natural muscling and amount of bone, Amber is extremely hard to fault. She can be bred to any bull and produce progeny that is a step ahead in the cattle industry. Her female progeny are probably her greatest claim to fame with their ability to pass on her ideal udder type and milking ability. We have only sold 3 Amber females and one flush in 12 years. Words can not describe our love for the Amber family and how important they are to our breeding program. 154 is no exception! She’s packed full of muscle and power all tied together in a correct structure and big foot. She is a direct daughter of the old girl herself and out of brave, who has produced some wicked progeny in just a few short years. Where to start with this exciting lot! 170R’s production record speaks for itself. She single handedly has upped the anti for the directed Amber 27H daughters. She currently has 23 progeny recorded, she’s 6 years old and looks 3. yes, that picture was just taken this summer of her! All 3 of those granddaughters pictured on 27H’s page are her daughters. 121’s mother was the result of a flush bought out of the World Congress sale on the donor cow LRX Abby 92P. We love the type that 92P was and she has bred on those powerful characteristics. 121’s calf out of buckeye might just be the perfect combination of Eastern and Western Canada Genetics.

The Ambrosia cow family came to us from the Shoestring Dispersal in 2001. 177X is a 4th generation Ambrosia which is a true test of how the family has preformed. 177 is extremely attractive and big ribbed. She’s bred to Torino who was Kyle’s favorite bull in the 2010 bull sale!

Tons of natural muscle packed in 5’s moderate frame. We calved out the first group of Superior females this spring and they all had correct udders and did a great job in their first year of production. House worked very well on the Superior heifers and you’ll see lots of them bred that way again this year.

45 may be the only bandana heifer in the sale but she holds her own very well. bandana made a huge impact in the show world along side his mom as a calf. 45 has a wicked side profile and is just as impressive when you get behind her. She’s bred to the up and coming Drake Poker Face bull who we were extremely impressed with when we saw him standing in stud in April.

There’s nothing sweeter then a black blaze face heifer calf and luckily 114 is more than just a pretty face! She comes from the same dam that produced Hot Iron, who was a high seller in the bull sale to Labatte, Oberle and Soderglen. Her sire Entourage is a neat made bull from On Target and 142P who’s from the Pepper family. 114 is packed full of power and performance and has all the makings of a future big time producer.

83 has a neat twist to her pedigree. She is bred up from our Two Face cow, which was a big time commercial cow us kids showed in the summer junior shows for a number of years. The Two Face progeny have now been bred up enough to reach purebred status and make some great females. She’s bred Odin to stay with the Homo Polled and Homo black genetics.

Well we’ve talked about how important the Amber’s are to us on the red side and the Charo’s are the match to the Amber’s on the black side. The Charo cow family has the most members in our donor line up with 7 cows currently being flushed. They are our go to family for not only herd bull producers but females as well. Dreaming Red, viper, Rancher and Redemption are all bulls out of Charo cows. The females are peas in a pod and they all carry the Charo characteristics, tons of rib shape, huge amount of natural muscle and super sound in their structure. They are cows that are timeless. We were setting cows up to flush mid September and Charo 604G comes past us and to quote Kyle “that cow is going to be around forever!” you can never go wrong with a Charo!

A group of embryos from the family matron herself, 604G and TNT Tanker. No direct female progeny has ever been sold out of 604G. Her ability to produce cattle to fit the ever changing cattle industry goes unmatched. year after year, different bull after different bull, she gets the job done. We were down at TNT the year Tanker sold and we were extremely impressed with his natural muscling and fleshing ability. Calves from this mating will all be homo polled and black but some may carry the hetero black gene. Lots 17 to 22 are all daughters, grand daughters or great grand daughters of 604G.

Its always fun deciding what bulls to flush cows too and 56K is always the test cow for a new bull! She’s just like her dam in the way they produce the right kind no matter what. Whether she’s producing bulls or females, red or black their correct and sound in their structure, big middle and big boned. 56K is the dam of our herd bulls Dreaming Red, viper and Rancher. She raised Highroller who was Champion bull at Agribition in 2005 as a calf. She has only ever produced 4 daughters and one raised a $25,000 heifer calf. Poker Face is a neat made baldy bull. He has wicked hair, a big foot and huge quarter. Can you imagine a blaze faced Charo?

The best thing about the Charo’s is they can not only be the producers of some great embryo calves they know how to raise them just as good themselves. 118 is proof of that! She’s the natural calf out of 3N. Now we love all our Charo’s but if we were asked to pick one very favorite it may just be 3N! 118 is a broody made, cleaned lined heifer calf with lots of muscle expression and character! She’ll be one of the first progeny to sell out of our brockle faced herd bull Hot Topic. Her sister, born Fabulous, was the high seller at Checkers ‘08 as a heifer calf and 118y is formed from the same mold, power and performance all tied into a clean made, eye appealing package.

Never have we offered any Charo embryos at a sale and in this one there are three different lots. We must have gone a little crazy! Again I have talked lots about the production of the Charo’s and 3N sure does not disappoint ever. Proof is in the progeny! She has left us more females than bulls which is perfectly alright in our minds. She is still in the early years of production according to her family’s history making it easier to let these 6 embryos find new homes. broker is a bull out of Steel Force, who provides a new splash of genetics up here in Canada and add the baldy factor in and the possibilities are endless. Whether these calves come red or black, baldy, blaze or solid colored they are going to be the kind we strive to produce here at LFE!

Footnote for lots 20 & 21:Superior really worked well with the Charo cow family. These 2 flush mates are out of the Dynamite x Joker 124S. Rounder in make up with clean lines and correct in their structure. The first superior daughters calved out great this spring and they are all moderate framed, milky females that weaned off some great calves. 137 and 135 are full sibs to the Semex bull Redemption who sired some great calves his first year, 2 even made the sale! The breds bring a bunch to the table and are ready to carry on the Charo name.

Well talk about how the Charo’s are our most known black cow family. Well lucky for all you red guys in love with the Charo family we have one red 604G daughter who has produced possibly the best bred red female in the sale offering. 514N x 7P was a combination that had huge potential and as 165 develops we fall more in love with her. Feminine fronted, smooth made, big ribbed, stout made, correct in her structure and takes a huge stride. I can’t stress enough how highly we think of this heifer! Then to top it off we bred her to Stubby! Look at the Stubby breds in the sale, they truly are wicked herd matrons in the making. This calf will be no different! 165 is in the show pen and ready to turn some heads this fall!

The Canadian Idol family may not be the biggest here on the farm but they are leaders in the race for being the most powerful on the Homo black side. The original cow was purchased from the Pearson’s at Checkers in 2004 and since then she has produced high selling bulls and some complete made females. 129S turned up the heat with the production of 626. She is super fancy, deep sided and long spined. She has one of the highly sought after blaze face and carries the Homo Polled and Homo black traits.

We wrote last fall in the sale comments for these heifers’ flush mate that there is nothing better than when a high selling heifer calf goes out and produces well. If you thought that one heifer was enough proof wait till you see the 3 we left at home! 2 red, 1 black, each bred to 3 up and coming breed changers. These heifers are packed full of natural muscle, style and rib. We have one female milking out of Tango and she is a perfect uddered young cow that has many years of production in her and these heifers should be no different with Ace being on their top side.

When we flushed 606R to Superior little did we know we would love the combination so much that we would be putting the combination in for 3 years. 606R was the bred full sister on choice with Ready to Tango, they took the calf and we got to bring the bred back home. We got 3 heifers and 3 bulls the first year out of her Superior flush. One is Smoke House and was a high seller to KBR Cattle Co. The 3 heifers are possibly my favorite black 2 yr olds! The second group of the embryos gave us another 3 heifers and 2 more bulls. One heifer sold last fall at Farmfair and the choice was not easy to put both these heifers in this sale. Both are extremely clean through their fronts and round in their make up. They are as quiet as they come and will be easy to find sale day.

Theres nothing funner then calving out a female for the first time and seeing how much potential she truly has. 33W did a wicked job on 62 and we are excited for both their futures. This heifer calf is sound, big ribbed and clean in her lines. She has a wicked pedigree that will be fun to select breeding options for! For all you juniors this one could not have a better personality and she loves the attention of being worked on!

Her first bull was our favorite red calving ease bull in the 2009 bull sale. His name is Baseman and there are a handful of heifers in the sale out of him. Her second calf is Ridgeline who is a semen sire in the Bouchard Livestock line up. Then we come to her flush of Lakota calves. It was these calves hitting the ground when we knew Lakota had done his job. 56 and 138 are big middle, smooth made and stout when you get behind them. The mother to 22 is the reason we love doing a few choice lots. She sold on choice at Checkers in 2008 and was the one we got to bring home. She has turned into a picture perfect cow and mated great with Punk. 22 has a big side profile, wicked hair and as a miniature of her mom. Firstbase’s are a great uddered cow family and are just the good honest type of cattle that aren’t afraid to produce.

If you want a heifer with production in her then 116 is that heifer. 116X is a full sister to Red Northern at Kenner’s, Towa at Ashworth’s and two donor cows here. One is 29S who is the mother to the lot 38 heifers. Her udder will be flawless and her longevity will be unmatched. We’ve talked about a few cow families that are rich in history here at the farm. The Fortunes are another one of our long term, productive cow families. The 96M female has really risen out of the ashes and taken the family to the next level. As we talk about the 199X female she is another one of our “special” heifers and has really impressed us over the summer. She is one of the youngest in the offering but is long made, deep middled, and sound from the ground up. She is a Punk out of a Rock Solid cow going back to the 96M female. She’s Homo Polled and came Hetero Black as a different twist. She’s bred to Broker to hopefully keep up with the Blaze face market!

620X will blow you away with her volume and power. She is an Odin out of two year old House daughter. She will represent the first group of Odin born here are at the farm. We are impressed with their ability to be born little, grow and perform. This heifer has a perfect blend of our favorite Homo black calving ease bulls. Entourage is another one of our young bulls that has done a great job on his first calf crop. They’re clean fronted, stylish cattle with lots of natural muscle. 97Y is a beautiful red blaze face heifer calf. She has a huge side, great structure and lots of foot. She is out of the cover girl 55T! 55T is the cow on this year’s cover of the ABS semen book. She’s another great Tangle Ridge daughter who is easy to find out on pasture and we could not have asked for anything more with her production of 97Y.

Couldn’t have worked more perfect in our lot order that the Stubby heifer calf follows Stubby’s cow family! This heifer calf is a tank. She’s the stoutest heifer calf in the pen and is just plain and simple super cool. She is out of just a first calving Dreaming Red Daughter. On a side note there are three Dreaming Red daughters in the sale carrying Stubby calves and I’d be putting a star beside them! This heifer calf is December born but will be out this fall and is ready for the challenge of showing against the bred heifers.

514N has done great things for us at LFE. His influence is strong in this sale not only with the quality of his direct daughters but with his outstanding grand daughters. 514N could easily be used on any type of cow and the results would be the same. Moderate framed, stout made and structurally flawless progeny. 38X is no exception she fits the bill perfectly. This could possible be the most sought after lot come sale day! 184T is the mother to Red Dirt and Playmaker going to Hanford’s at the 2011 bull sale. Her bull calf by Advance this year will put her in the record books. He is my favorite bull out of the 2011 born calves. He is powerful, full of muscle, clean in his lines and a true young herd bull in the making. LFE 646RThe last of the embryo lots catalogued and a great way to end! 646R is none other then Dark Knights Mom. Look at his progeny; they are chiseled out of the same mold as 646 was. 646R is easy to find in the pasture with her easy fleshing ability and great side profile. She carries one of the wicked House udders they are known for. We think the production potential will be endless for this cow and flushing her to Poker Face was an easy choice. Poker Face’s mother is flawless in her type and structure. The embryo calves will all be born Homo polled, they will all be black but some may carry Hetero black which could lead to some neat pedigreed red cattle in a few generations!

We can’t get enough of our Stubby progeny. 47X is wide topped, has a big quarter and is sound in her structure. Her mother 629N is a productive Express daughter with a great udder. I’d be hoping for a black blaze face heifer calf out of this one!

A flawless made Rochfort daughter. Rochforts carry the same 514N look but are a touch bigger on the performance side. 46X comes from a big volume Bodybuilder who was great uddered.

A neat made Punk daughter whose moderate framed and clean fronted. Punk is maybe a little different type of herd bull for us. He’s the cleanest fronted bull we run and is super square made. Again she’s Homo black and bred to Odin to keep it going.

The Peppers are normally a red based family but both heifers in the sale are black! Funny how that works some times. 99Y is possibly the most complete heifer calf from top to bottom in the offering. She’s stout made, high volume, clean in her lines and is as hairy as they come. Her structure is flawless and she’s a joy to watch on the move. Her mother may be the most complete Rock daughter we have in production and also raised Entourage. 99Y is an Advance daughter and we think is following the same maturing pattern as last years Heaven Sent female. She’s only getting better with age and has a life time of production ahead of her.

The bred heifer out of the Pepper cow family. 631W comes from the flush mate to the dam of lot 62.We sold her maternal sister in Checkers to Mark Land and Cattle. She has become a front pasture red cow for him. The second Redemption calf in the sale. Extremely long and full of muscle. Different twist to her pedigree with her mom being a black Hemi cow. The Signals are the type of cows that are perfectly happy staying home and showing you what true production is all about.

The only red direct Tangle Ridge daughter in the sale. Don’t need to say much about Tangle’s ability to produce females when 13 lots in the sale are out of Tangle daughters. 208X is dark cherry red, feminine fronted, clean lined and has lots of natural muscle. A year ago we had a big change in our winter breeding cows. We made the choice to sell all of the Fullblood winter calvers. Not an easy choice as the Fullbloods are what started the LFE registered Simmental Herd. Once the decision was made however, it was an easy choice to send them two hours east of us to Irma, home of Mark Land and Cattle. Lenny has been a long time commercial bull customer of ours and was starting to play around with a few registered cows. He is very passionate about the Simmental breed and is an outstanding cattleman. We know the cows are well looked after and couldn’t be happier when we see how well they are doing at Lenny’s. This group of Fullblood females is from the heart of Lenny’s herd, some were bred by us and some are 100% bred and raised by Lenny. We are still in the Fullblood circle as we kept all the summer calving Fullbloods. Justice’s first bull calves had a huge impact in our fullblood bull pen and his females are ready to out do the boys! 400Y is as wide made as they come; she has a big quarter and is deep sided. Her young mother is tidy uddered and outdid herself with 400Y. This female has a life time of production ahead of her and is only getting better with age.

Well if there’s a fullblood heifer I have a soft spot for its 451Y. I think this heifer is so right for the times. She’s full of eye appeal ,natural muscling, and broodiness. You can’t get much better colored than 348X. She carries two big goggles. She’s a direct daughter of Evan 14P, the Evan 440L x Hadau bull bred by Moore Farms. Her dam is a highly productive Whistler daughter going back to Rusty. Her foundation is strong and has the herd bull producing look to her. She’s bred to Stimulation who we have had tremendous success with on our heifers the last few years.

A powerful heifer calf out of just a two year old. This calf has all the goodies and is hard to fault. 928W is a great young cow with a correct udder and weaned this great calf off while still carrying lots of condition. Well this is a first for us, selling Angus females. We are extremely proud of our Angus herd and these young females could not be better representations of that. 190X is clean made, moderate framed and big middle. She is ideal in her structure and really gets out and moves. The 2009 World Forum marked our first time ever showing Angus cattle. We had a great run with our small string and loved our first experience in the Angus show world! Our two red heifer calves swept the senior heifer calf division and have now impressed us in their first year of production. 26Y is the first calf out of the Reserve Champion Senior Heifer Calf at the Forum. She is moderate framed, big middle and impressive from every angle. Her dam is a great young Robson daughter who is a great milker and held nothing back in her first year of production. Being out of Oscar on the top gives this heifer calf a great future of being able to produce high marketable progeny.

Complete made bred going back to Net Worth and Time Regulator. She comes from our wicked bull producing cow family the Dutchess’s. She ranks in the top 10% in milk and total maternal. Again she’s carrying a Bismark calf. Anyone who follows the SAV program will know how popular the Bismark x Net Worth bulls were last spring.

77Y is the squarest hipped of the Black Angus heifer calves. I think this heifer may be just about as wide as she is tall. She’s got the zipper front end with the volume to back it up. Her dam is another one of our great older Angus cows who produced one ready for the future.

These Net Worth cattle are hard to beat. We were extremely impressed with him in the flesh when we saw him over a year ago out breeding cows. 115Y is long sided and smooth made. A little rounder in her make up but has lots of natural thickness.

The calf that represents the production in our Angus two year olds. She’s a Final Answer out of a perfect Innovator cow. Big middle, clean in her lines and sound structure. Final Answer daughters are known for their ability to out produce themselves and be the picture perfect Angus females.

A double breed SAV female. In our first year breeding to Bismark all we got was heifers. They are complete in their make up and have developed into great breds. 113X comes from a milky Peacemaker daughter who held nothing back in her production. We’ve had tremendous success with our Final Answers bred Bismark. You may remember our Heifer Calf Champion at Farmfair last fall; she’s a Bismark x Final Answer.
