Page 1: Letter of confirmation of policy conference

Dear Colleague:

We are happy you have registered for the annual “Best Practices in Policy Development” with us here at Utah Valley University. Included within this packet are directions to the campus, a map of the campus, and parking passes for you or your group. We invite you to submit in advance or come prepared with a diagram or chart of your institution’s approval process, questions about general policy issues, and in particular, about current Information Technology issues and policies that you may want to share with each of the other institutions of higher education within Utah.

Once again, we plan to make this an annual event with a new emphasis each year on some aspect of policy and procedure. With all that has been happening in the information management field, we have chosen IT policies and procedures as the emphasis for this first year. It is planned as a day of idea exchange.

Our keynote speaker will be Stephen H. Hess, Chief Information Officer for the Utah Board of Regents and for the University of Utah. He will be discussing policy formulation and implementation through the lens of information technology.

In the afternoon we will share our research on best practices in policy management, open the conference to a dialogue in which each institution can share their perspective, and finish the day with a question and answer panel of legal, IT, and general policy experts.

We hope this conference on November 7, 2008, is something you will find interesting and valuable. We look forward to a rich open dialogue and sharing of ideas. Enclosed with this letter you will find a packet of conference information, including registration materials. If you have a special need for parking, lodging, or meals, please call 801-863-8259. We will be happy to assist you in any way we can. I look forward to seeing you on November 7, 2008.
