1 Palm Coast Decorative Painters Volume 17 Issue 6 An Affiliate of the Society of Decorative Painters June 2020 Letter from the President Sister Painters, What a year we have had so far. We have cancelled and rescheduled workshops so much I do not know what end is up. Seriously, we are hoping to have the next workshop in July. Be sure to read Ruths letter for more information. We will still offer lunch for just $5.00. Julys menu will be a Pierogi Casserole and salad. There is a show and tell addition to this newsletter, thanks to a suggestion from Carol White. I hope to see many pictures submitted. I cannot tell you all how much I have missed each and every one. Looking for- ward to getting back to normal, if that is even possible. Please stay home and stay safe . Lee h will also be offered for $5.00. Happy painting, L Letter from the 1st Vice President Hi Ladies – I sure hope everyone has been well during our COVID va- cation’. We are all fine here but I have been feeling a bit house bound and anxious to get back to a more normal rou- tine. So ---- are you ready to paint again? I am and hope you all are too! Were now in the process of scheduling classes beginning in July. Both of the first 2 classes should be a great way to once again begin painting. Our first class on the revised July schedule will be the Strokework Box’, taught by Lee Fasnacht. Lee assures me that the painting prep is minimal and the design itself can be transferred onto your piece in class. This design also has a very limited palette. In August, we have another fun and easy project – Batik Greeting Cards – 2 of them’, taught by Claire LaRue. There is NO prep work involved! Claire will be providing all of the supplies you will need including the watercolors and card stock for a $1 palette fee. Just bring a few watercolor brushes, if you have them, and an old brush to apply the hot wax. If you have your own wax pot that would be helpful, so bring it along. Then in September, Nancy Walsh will be teaching her Keepers of the Sea(Mermaids) project. (Please note that class will be held on the second Saturday (9/12) this month due to Labor Day weekend the previous week.) This project will have some prep work so allow some time to get ready. If you still have some spare time now, you might consider starting this one now. After you sign up, Nancy will email the pattern & prep info directly to you. Personally, I m anx- ious to get this one started. I am now taking sign-ups. Please contact me by phone (386- 447-1923) or email ([email protected]). I will collect the class fee from you when I see you in class; however, if you sign-up, payment is your responsibility whether you come to class or not. Cant wait to see everyone and start painting again. See you in in July! Ruth McDonald First Vice President

JUNE BIRTHDAYS

MEMBERSHIP NEWS

Hello friends and fellow painting enthusiasts. It's hard to believe we are talking about the "June Newsletter". With life seemingly at a standstill, how did we come to mid-year. I trust you all are doing well and taking the sug-gested safety precautions to remain healthy. I too am missing all of you and our painting gath-erings. With time on our hands these days I've been mulling over a few ideas and hope others are thinking of innovative ways to grow our member-ship and increase treasury revenue in the com-ing months. During the past weeks I have attempted to organize magazines, sort supplies, and hang finished art pieces. My wall space is diminishing and some pieces are designated gifts for family and friends. We know their favorites. I am also challenging myself a bit by changing up mediums for new projects, working in some I seldom use. We may all benefit through some diversion from the news of today and turn our thoughts to bright colors, heartwarming subjects, new techniques and be pleasantly surprised at the outcome. With ART AT HEART, You are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay well. Carol White, 2nd VP, Membership

KIDS R FIRST Hello to All! I am sending each of you a big virtual hug. I have been painting boxes for our Kids R First Program. Copies are includ-ed in the newsletter. I have plenty of box-es if anyone would like to get some to paint in our “down” time. Just email me at ([email protected] or [email protected]) and we can figure out how best to get them to you. Please stay safe. Lana Raymond Kids R First Chair

PAINTING TIPS BY NANCY WALSH

Purell has become a rare commodity in these health consciousness days! I’ve resorted to snitching small amounts of my husband’s vodka to clean my brushes! LOL It’s an old method and appears to work nearly as well as the Purell.

Christmas Party

Palm Coast Decorative Painters (PCDP) is a non-profit, affiliated chapter of the

National Society of Decorative Painters. A monthly meeting, followed by a paint-

ing workshop, is held the first Saturday of each month (usually) at the Flagler

Women's club, 1524 S. Central Avenue, Flagler Beach. Business meetings start at

9:00 a.m. followed by the scheduled workshop/seminar. All levels of painters are

welcome to any of the meetings. Check out our website (updated at the end of

each month):
