Neighbors Helping Neighbors Letter from the Executive Director: Over the past year the Patrician Society has gone through a few changes. Some difficult and sad, yet some wonderful - with great benefits to our organization! Several board members left after having served many years giving their time, talents, and treasure to this organization. The new Board of Directors includes 2 members who currently volunteer weekly seeing us in action. We also have 2 members in the mental health business who know the plight of our clients. These additions will strengthen the Board as a whole. Our new Food Cupboard and Volunteer Coordinator, Jackie DiPasquale, has increased our volunteer team, re-organized our stockroom, and put into place new protocol for the cupboard. She is a wonderful addition to our team. Our new walk-in freezer, donated in honor of longtime volunteer Michelle France, has enabled us to provide frozen meats to our clients. This has been a much-needed addition to our cupboard. Please feel free to come and visit us to see what we do. We cannot do our job without the help of our supporters. YOU ARE PART OF OUR TEAM! Thank you. LeeAnn Our Clients: “K” is a client who has two master’s degrees. She worked in Washington, DC as a radio broadcaster for a world network. Letter from the Executive Director:Over the past year the Patrician Society has gone through a few changes.

Thank you.LeeAnn

Our Clients: “K” is a client who has two master’s degrees.

She worked in Washington, DC as a

radio broadcaster for a world network. She had a stroke and has fallen on

difficult times. K is a kind, sweet woman who is

always gracious. She plans to take her certification

test to become a psychology counselor when her stroke symptoms get better. She gave us the

following card this year at the holidays.

Eligibility for Service: The Patrician Society carefully reviews all prospective clients annually, but does not rely solely on Federal Poverty Guidelines and recognizes no arbitrary income cut-off. Eligibility for assistance is determined by many factors including various types of family income and assets, number of persons in the household, current financial standing, and extraordinary or unusual family circum-stances which may require immediate attention. After review, the Patrician Society will allocate available resources as equitably and effectively as possible in order to best serve the most clients.

The Patrician Society is designated by the Internal Revenue Service as a Code 501(c)(3) charitable organization. All contributions are fully tax-deductible

Service The Patrician Society marked its 38th year of continuous operation providing assistance to verifiably needy families and individuals in Montgomery County. Our client base includes elderly people on fixed incomes, homeless persons, parents with children and receiving diminishing public assistance benefits, residents of boarding homes, recently unemployed and underem-ployed family breadwinners, and others who experienced a demonstrable financial need. In this past calendar year, the Patrician Society worked with 1,246 families (unduplicated) comprised of nearly 4,000 individuals.

Emergency Food CupboardOur food cupboard provides grocery baskets which include fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, and non- perishables. In keeping with our function as an EMERGENCY food cupboard, each package provides enough food for 3 meals a day for 3 days. The food cupboard client hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 1 to 3 pm, and other times by appointment. The cupboard operation is completely staffed by a dedicated group of volunteers who happily perform all necessary tasks. The Patrician Society receives NO GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES. All monetary and in-kind resources are received from families, individuals, service organizations, schools, churches, businesses, clubs, neighborhood groups and scout troops.

H.U.M.A.N. KINDNESSWhat would your life be like if you had no electric in your home…or no water…or your furnace had no oil to keep your home warm in winter or you had no means to pay for your much needed medication? We see these situations on a daily basis and our clients struggle in these circumstances every day. Last year, thanks to your generosity, we were able to assist 514 families who had such dire needs. However, due to lack of resources, there is an extraordinary number of families we were not able to help.

This is how the Patrician Society meets these challenges:

H.U.M.A.N. (Housing, Utilities, Miscellaneous Aid for Neighbors)The Patrician Society HUMAN Program has, for the past 12 years, been assisting qualified families with partial rental payments to avoid evictions, partial utility bill payments to avoid shut offs, heating oil to get people through the cold winter months, medical bills that are not covered by insurance, and a myriad of other miscellaneous expenses that are brought to our attention. In addition to our service on site, we have referred many other families to various appropriate agencies for assistance. Unfortunately we have also had to turn down at least 1,000 other legitimate and worthy requests throughout the year simply because our funds were depleted. The demonstrable need for this pro-gram is great and continues to increase. The Patrician Society is conducting a year-long campaign to find additional resources to enable us to continue to offer this program.

Help us by...■ Sponsoring a family■ Making a gift that could be designated for a specific service: rent, electric, water, heating oil, medical aid, transportation, etc.
