    Dear Mr President,

The crisis over Srebrenica, a region in Eastern Bosnia that has been surrounded

since the beginning of the war, has been lasting for a while now.

In its Resolutions 824 and 836, the UN Security Council declared this region a UN

safe area. In addition to this, in agreement with UNPROFOR, the region was

    demilitarised in 1993.

Despite this, the town and its environs have been constantly shelled. However,

since yesterday, the Serbian aggressor has been carrying out a massive mechanized

and infantry attack against this zone. The UNPROFOR forces, which are few in

number, are neither willing to protect nor capable of protecting the town, under

attack, and so more than 60,000 inhabitants, most of whom are women, children, and

the elderly, have found themselves in mortal danger.

Please use your influence to ensure that the international community fulfil its

obligations to this UN safe area and prevents an act of terrorism and genocide

against the civilian population of Srebrenica.

In anticipation of your immediate action, please accept the assurances of my

    highest esteem.
