Record breaking LSR (Land Speed Record) Spitfire: By Bill Fisher

The Team McLeish Bros. SpitfireLSR started life as a ‘69 Triumph GT6+ and is the world’s second fastest GT6.We built it in 2012 and it has set 8 records at Bonneville and El Mirage. At Bonneville our top speed was 183mph with a 1000cc engine. The fastest GT6 went 389mph.The SpitfireLSR won the SCTA Top Points Championship in 2012. It was Team McLeish Bros. 4th SCTA championship. So far we’ve run two motors, GSXR 1000 and Hayabusa 1300.Construction is mild steel square tubing with 1 5/8th roll cage. Drive train is front wheel drive with a locker dif, 930cvs and a arms with crossed springs and shocks. (From Derek McLeish)

While visiting my son Matthew in Claremeont, CA, we had the opportunity to drive 65 miles east to El Mirage Dry lake. This is the Holy Grail of Hot Rodding dating back to the late 1930’s, and we weren’t disappointed. We arrived at noon on Sunday for the 2nd day opening of the year May 18-19. After living in the So-Cal area during the 70’s - I had never made it to El Mirage. (The lower tip of Edwards Air Force Base) What an eerie, dusty-smooth, sun-baked landscape it is. Its 5 miles long, 2 miles wide - yet you can fit 6 El Mirages within the confines of the Bonneville Salt flats of Utah. The McLeish Bros. car carries a narrowed Dodge Avenger Funny Car front nose, powered through the front wheels by a 1300 c.c Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle motor. British advancement! See their report below:

James McKenzie offers forth. More of his mini reconstruction.LABCC Cars @ Brit’s on Mass. 6/1/13 From James MckenzieHi members,We were so busy today it was amazing. We got there in front of Brits at 8:45 and there were already people looking at the car. We talked to hundreds of folks, barely had time to eat lunch. So we didn't take many pictures. Sorry. Enjoyed talking to Ken Smiley and looking at his car. He should send you a great picture of the dog howling in front of his car. We had 10 cars total. Wished we would have had more but we had a great time. Mass street was so busy and lots of people were there to watch the parade. The batmobile was cool, everyone applauded when it went by.We had a great day out, reallly enjoyed meeting new folks and talking to everyone. Possible couple of new club members also.– James
