IGNATIAN HALLMARK OF EXCELLENCELoyola, having educated thousands of students ever since its inception, has won many laurels and accolades in academia.

DESIRED CHANGE The college aims at training young men and women to be leaders in all walks of life, who will play a vital role in bringing about the desired changes in the lives of the people, particularly the Dalits and other disadvantaged sections of the society.

The aim of the college is to educate young men and women to serve their fellowmen and women in justice, truth and love.

FOCUS The focus of the college is to provide higher education in a Christian atmosphere to deserving students irrespective of caste, creed and culture to participate in nation building.

Loyola College looks at education differently. It consistently and constantly works to form the students as Competent, Committed, Creative and Compassionate men and women for and with others. This is the core of Jesuit Education. This is what has made Loyola climb to the top league of colleges in India.

11 departments offer M.Phil. and 12 departments conduct Ph.D. programmes. At present, 135 teaching staff members hold doctoral degree.

The college started functioning in July, 1925 with 75 students in the undergraduate courses of Mathematics, History and Economics.

Today, 19 P.G. courses, 19 U.G. courses (Arts, Sciences and Commerce) and 12 special Institutes offer various programmes.

The status of autonomy was granted in 1978. The college continues to be affiliated to the University of Madras.

The college was recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India in 2010.

UGC has elevated Loyola from the status of “College with Potential for Excellence” to the status of "College of Excellence" in 2014 for the period of 5 years.

NAAC's re-accreditation score in 2012 (Third Cycle) is 3 .70 out of 4.00 CGPA.

OUTSTANDING RESEARCH Loyola has a strong research culture. It aims to promote multidisciplinary research and education in arts and humanities, sciences and commerce. 400 Ph.D. research scholars carry out research under 70 Ph.D. supervisors. 81st place in research contributions for national development (Current Science Magazine) Loyola Research Park has been established to involve UG and PG students Only Arts and Science college in India to be recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India. The Central Board of Direct Taxes, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India, has recognized the quality scientific research done in Loyola College by the approval granted to it on 01.04.2011 of tax exemption under clause (ii) sub section 1 of section 35 of the Income Tax Act 1961. This approval enables 175% weighted deduction from the Gross Total Income to the donors of Loyola College Society for the purpose of scientific research. STUDENT SERVICES AND SUPPORT SYSTEMThere is a wide range of support services that complement the classroom experience and contribute directly to the welfare and overall growth of students.

LOYOLA STUDENTs SUPPORT SERVICES (LSSS)LSSS is a service unit that is dedicated to over-all development of students by offering support services such as scholarships, management fee concession, free noon meal, part time jobs, supplementary education, special English coaching, enabling classes, development of personality through life skills, art and literature and a special accompaniment to foreign students.

ENABLING ProgrammesWe follow up closely the academic performance of the students and render academic support to slow learners with remedial programmes in English and Major Disciplines at free of cost.

Spiritual lifeSpiritual life in campus starts actively from the beginning of every academic year through

inter-religious inaugural prayer services. Catholic students are given an opportunity to experience God during weekend retreats organised year-wise and language-wise.

RESOURCE CENTRE FOR THE DIFFERENTLY-ABLED Loyola College has always considered differently-abled students as God's own children. The RCDA has provisions such as advisors, specialized software, examination arrangements, printed text materials, and audio gadgets to ensure these students with specific learning difficulties to actively participate in academic life with the support of philanthropists who provide them with finance and also scribes.

PLACEMENT centreIt provides information and guidance to help students find hands-on experience and employment opportunities. It also organizes workshops and training sessions on communication

APPLYING FOR ADMISSIONAdmission to Loyola is competitive. The selection policies and process are unique. We encourage applicants from diverse social, cultural, economic, ethnic and geographical backgrounds.

ELIGIBILITY FACTORSLoyola gives preference to the students coming from the neighbouring districts. The inclusive tradition of loyola welcomes students from other states and countries.

Women students may apply for all the Post Graduate courses and also for VISCOM, B.M.M. (Animation) and French in Under Graduate courses.

Students who have completed the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Course or any other course recognized by the University of Madras as equivalent to it, are eligibleforadmissiontothebachelor’sdegreecourse.

The applicants who have passed the following examination should submit an eligibility certificate from the University of Madras.

• Higher Secondary or equivalent examination conducted by all other State Boards except Tamil Nadu

• All degree (UG/PG) examinations conducted by any university other than University of Madras / foreign countries

If the results are not published for any board before the last date of submission of application, the students are asked to meet the Admission Officer within 3 days after the publication of the results.

WHERE TO SUBMITThe duly filled in application should reach the college within ten days from the date of publication of Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Examination results along with required enclosures. You can submit your filled applicationform:

• In person – Administrative Block at Loyola College Campus

•By post – send with a self- addressed envelope ( with the required amount of stamp) to THE PRINCIPAL, LOYOLA COLLEGE, CHENNAI-34 to receive your acknowledgement card and the hall ticket.

•The last date for submitting the application for UG courses on or before 22.05.2015 (Friday)

The college is not responsible for any postal mishap.

SELECTION PROCESSINTERVIEW

At the time of interview the original documents of all certificates enclosed with admission application should be produced for verification (See, How to Fill, page 7 of the prospectus).

Communication will be sent only to those who are provisionally selected. They have to present themselves/along with parents for interview with the Principal on the date mentioned in the call-letter. Their absence on the scheduled date will only lead to cancellation of Admission.

The information of selection is sent by post / SMS. Also, their application status will be available at www.loyolacollege.edu from the last week of May 2015.

ENTRANCE TEST

An Entrance test for all PG students will be conducted and

followed by a personal interview. Students should produce all the original documents for verification at the time of interview.

The last date for submitting the application for all PG courses:13.06.2015 (Saturday).

The Entrance test for all PG courses will be on 17.06.2015 (Wednesday).

FEES PAYMENTThe provisionally selected candidate has to pay the prescribed fees only at the CMS counters, Axis Bank, located at Loyola College campus.

WITHDRAWALThe enrolled students are expected to complete their course of study. He/she may not withdraw from the college without informing the Principal in writing. Otherwise he/she will be liable to pay fees for the period his/her name remains on the rolls.


NOTE TO STUDENTSThe college expects the students to be highly focussed in academics and make maximum use of the facilities available for holistic development. No student is allowed to take tuitions privately from the teachers of this college. Exams will be conducted periodically. Attendance is compulsory and promotion will depend on their regularity. During the course of the study, students are encouraged to take any additional diploma/ certificate course offered by various institutes in the campus, relevant to their subject specialization. Students coming from Tamil medium will have free Special English coaching classes and enabling classes for 120 hours during the first year. Those who fail to complete this package will have to undergo intensive training organised by LSSS in order to complete the required credits of Loyola Enabling Club.

DISCIPLINARY NORMS Loyola is dedicated not only to learning and advancement of knowledge but also to developing ethical and responsible human beings. The disciplinary policies are made with this uncompromising perspective.

• Raggingofanykindandanymagnitudeinside/ outside the college campus will lead to dismissal.

• Allstudentswhocometocollegebytwowheelers are asked to wear a helmet.

• Anykindofdisturbingbehaviourinthecampusis not permitted.

• Smoking,useofdrugs,alcoholorpeddling drugs in the campus is prohibited.

• AnyIll-treatment,bothphysicalandverbal, based on gender, caste and religion will lead to dismissal.

Their co-operation is solicited especially to ensure a regular attendance and academic progress. They are asked to co-operate with the college authorities in the formation of their children /wards.
