A commiee, chaired by Dan Grinstead, has been working since June with Merriman Holt Powell architectural firm to assess the needs of our ministries, the giſts and challenges of current facilities, and our goals and hopes for the future. Through interviews with staff and ministry leaders and visits to other churches, we are gathering what we need to envision ways that our building can be adapted, renovated and renewed. On Sunday, August 2, immediately following worship, all are invited to linger in the Sanctuary, where we will hear from the architect and commiee about what we have learned and what to expect in the next couple of months. There will be a brief presentation, followed by an opportunity for questions and further discussion with the architect and commiee members. AnnouncementsFROM HERE TO THERE

When the choir returns to their regular schedule this fall, they will make a grand entrance by wearing brand new choir robes that have recently been ordered. But the celebration doesn’t end there!

Soon, a church in Kadem, Kenya, will receive a shipment of our choir’s retired robes for their own choir to wear. Just a few days before the choir planned to wear their old robes for the last time, the church received a call out of the blue asking if we happened to have any robes we could donate to the Kenyan church.

A woman named Suzanne came to pick up the robes, and she was bubbling over with excitement as she packed them in her car. She was so joyful because it is her home church in Kenya that will receive the robes. She explained there are many people in the church who long to sing in the choir, but they must have a robe to do so. Suzanne’s mission has become to find enough robes that are no longer wanted in the United States and send them to Kenya in order to provide one to anyone who wants to sing in a choir, not only in her home church, but in every church in Kenya.

“We have been allowed to be a part of God’s plan,” says choir president Juanita Rogillio. “We had 60 robes that we had wanted to replace for so long and someone else had an urgent desire to pick up almost the exact same number of robes on the last day we wore them to send to members of another church thousands of miles away who view them as a great gift and are excitedly waiting to receive them.”

Before she left, Juanita asked Suzanne about the name of her home church so that we could keep them in our prayers. It is Sota SDA Church. How wonderful it is to know that we can join our Christian brothers and sisters all over the world in singing praises to the God who made us all!

For folks 55 and over, PrimeTimers will meet on Monday, July 27, in the Parlor. Games will begin at 9:30 am, followed by a short meeting. Remember to bring a salad or a dessert for the lunch at 11:15 am. Our program will feature Sarah Winkel at the piano leading us in singing “Summertime Hymns” at noon.

With Vacation Bible School just around the corner, help feed hungry tummies with healthy snacks. Stop by the Café to sign up to donate snacks for the 150 kids and volunteers we will welcome. We appreciate your generosity! If you have questions, contact Hillary Peete, Director of Children’s Ministry, at 713-723-0175.

We’ll be raising up snow-capped mountains and pitching tents to decorate for our upcoming “Everest” Vacation Bible School. Help us transform the church on Saturday, August 1, from 9 am to 1 pm. It’s come and go as your availability allows, with refreshments served. If you have questions, contact Hillary Peete.

Having rested their voices throughout July, the Sanctuary Choir will resume weekly rehearsals on Thursday, August 6, at 7 pm in Room 200. If you’ve thought about singing with the choir, now is a great time to join! For details, contact Rev. DeAndre Johnson at 713-723-0175 or [email protected].
