A Lesson in Provision

Mark 14:12-16 …And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him. And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us…and his disciples…found as he had said unto them…

Himself a lamb…– Matthew 17:27 …when thou hast

opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee

– Matthew 21:2-3 …Go into the village…

Page 6: Lessons from the Last Supper:

power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue

– I Corinthians 10:13 …but will with the temptation also make a way of escape…

Page 7: Lessons from the Last Supper:

A Lesson in Humility

A Lesson in Betrayal

Matthew 26:21-24 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

Page 10: Lessons from the Last Supper:

A Lesson in Betrayal

• John 13:25-27 He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it? Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.

• John 13:30 He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.

Page 11: Lessons from the Last Supper:

A Lesson in Betrayal

• Matthew 26:31-35 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended…

• Matthew 26:56 …Then all the disciples forsook Him, and fled

Page 12: Lessons from the Last Supper:

A Lesson in Betrayal

• Hebrews 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift…If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

• Hebrews 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

A Lesson in Remembrance

Luke 22:15-16 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God

Page 14: Lessons from the Last Supper:

A Lesson in Remembrance

• Luke 22:19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. – The Jew would pass the unleavened

bread and say “This is the body of the lamb which our fathers ate in the wilderness”

– This bread was the “afkomen”

Page 15: Lessons from the Last Supper:

A Lesson in Remembrance

• Luke 22:17-18 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.– There were at least 3 situation where

the cup was passed during the Passover meal

• Luke 22:20 Likewise the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the New Testament in My blood, which is shed for you.

Page 16: Lessons from the Last Supper:

A Lesson in Warfare

Luke 22:35-37 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

Page 17: Lessons from the Last Supper:

A Lesson in Warfare

• Luke 22:38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough. – They were to face a “multitude”

(Matthew, Mark, Luke) or “band” (John 18)

– What was Jesus trying to say?

Page 18: Lessons from the Last Supper:

A Lesson in Warfare

• John 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

• II Corinthians 10:3-4 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds)

Consider During the Lord’s Supper

I Corinthians 11:23-25 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
