Lesson4 (Designing a Name Tag)

In this lesson you will learn how to produce a name tag using 123D Design. Key Vocabulary: - Extrude: Extend a shape. Primitive’s menu: A menu with basic 3D and 2D shapes. Torus: A donut shape. Cube: A symmetrical 3D shape with six equal sides. Scale: To adjust the size of an object. Fillet: To round the edge of an object. Mesh: A group of ‘faces’. Edge: The edge where two faces or surfaces meet.

Steps:

1. Go to the top main menu and CLICK the text button(T ) and then CLICK on the 3D workspace( Grid). Move the 3D workspace to a position where you want the text.

2. In the text panel, type in the text you want. Look at the fonts and SELECT the font that suits your name. CLICK ok.

3. SELECT the text using the left mouse button. When you do this, the gear button will

pop up under your name. CLICK the gear button under the text item, SELECT the extrude text button. This will allow you to extend your text.

4. Remember the yellow arrow, one will now appear. Use the arrow to RAISE your

name to a minimum 0.7.

5. Go back to the top menu, CLICK on the cube, another menu will drop down. This is

called the primitives’ menu.

You will use this menu with every design that you work with. SELECT the torus, it looks like a donut, and place it on the workspace.

6. Go back to the top main menu, CLICK on the cube again, in the drop-down primitives’ menu, SELECT the cube and place it off centre from the text in your workspace.

7. In the workspace, now SELECT the cube. When you do this, another menu will pop up at the bottom of the workspace. PRESS the second icon which is called the smart scale.

Yellow handles will appear. PULL the yellow handles to scale or change the size of the cube and make it go around the text. When you finish scaling; click on the check icon to end the mode.

8. Move the shape to fit under the text.

9. At the end; you can change the materials of the tag by selecting a specific part to be changed and then you choose the (Material) icon from the gear.
