Mon 12/10 – A2, A4 – Art 1 • Warm up: Write down these Metal techniques:
1. Directions: Draw, PUSH, Flip & Flatten 2. Convex (pops out): Push out from the back 3. Concave (pushed in): Push in from the front 4. Neutral (flat): Flatten and smooth on front.
• Due Today & Wed: Warm ups & Closings for past 2 weeks
• Mid Term Exam on 12/18: Review to come. You can use your notes.
• Today’s Objectives: Metal Steps: Show me your 3 sketches for a grade.
1. Trace your 6x8 paper onto the 6x8 metal
2. Practice tooling techniques on the small metal.
3. Take the paper off & begin tooling “FLIP & FLATTEN”
4. Show me when you think you are done & I will give you more tips to make it better.

• Today’s Objectives: DEMONSTRATION on how to begin TOOLING THE METAL for the MASK Metal Steps: Show me your 3 sketches for a grade.

• What is one specific new thing you learned or did in class today?
Metal Tooling directions:
• 1. Directions: Draw, push, Flip & Flatten 2. Convex (pops out): Push out from the back. Then flip over and flatten around the 3D parts. 3. Concave (pushed in): Push in from front. Then flip over & Flatten around concave parts. 4. Neutral (flat): Flatten and smooth on front. Lay your metal flat and flatten everything on your desk.
Painting Mask with India Ink
• Sharpie your name on the back before you ink
• Paint India ink all over your entire mask.
• Let dry on newspaper on back counter
• While it is drying begin your construction paper background.
• Then sand off steel wool with small circular motions. Leave some black in the concave crevasses and let the top convex parts be silver!
Background Directions for Mask:
• Plan out designs or simple patterns to cut out and glue on black or white poster board.
• Use Elmers Glue to glue biggest to smallest pieces.
• Then HOT GLUE metal mask onto the center.
• Be careful. Glue & metal get very hot!
When finished with mask:
1. Tribal mask design – tape in your skbk and draw the other half.
2. Cultural Mask sketch with descriptive paragraph about the culture.
3. Native American masks
4. Superhero Mask sketch
5. Social Mask collage
6. Make a mask on paint shop or power point

• Today’s Objectives: 1. Last class to work on the Complementary Color Oil Pastel still life. Due Next class: Thursday 11/13 2. If finished, work on a colored pencil artwork of your choice in your skbk and then begin practicing colored pencil techniques in your sketchbook.
3. If Time, Power Point on our next project… Colored Pencil Still Life. • Closing question:
Colored pencil techniques to practice
• Your goal is to get smooth, solid, vivid color with prisma colors.
• Use smooth, small strokes in a consistent direction. Use multiple layers and firm pressure, except with light values.
• Do 3 Value fade outs with one color (Get a smooth value gradation)
• Do 3 Blends (2 analogous colors that fade together) • Do 3 Tints (one color plus white on top) • Do 3 Shades (Ebony fade out plus a color on top) • Do 3 Modeled 3D Objects: Use all techniques to make objects
look 3D • Use your color blender on all to get smoother more solid
colors.

• Answer: You make a shade by doing a light fade out with Ebony first then coloring a color on top of it with firm pressure. A shade is a darker version of a color.
