something far more wonderful than just heal a sick friend. However, while the sisters werewaiting for Jesus to come, Lazarus became worse and worse and eventually died. How sadthey were and puzzled that Jesus did not come straight away.
Neighbours and friends came to help them. They took the body of Lazarus and wrapped it inclean pieces of cloth and put it in a cave. Then they rolled a great stone in front to close it up.Mary and Martha went back home in deep sorrow for the loss of their brother. “If only Jesus
had come”, they kept saying to each other.
But Jesus knew what was happening even though He was in another town. In fact, He told Hisdisciples that He knew Lazarus was dead, although no one had actually told Him so. After
Lazarus had been dead for four days, Jesus and His disciples arrived in Bethany. Marthaheard the news that Jesus had arrived in the village and she ran to see Him. “Lord, if You hadbeen here my brother would not have died.” she said. Jesus told her, “Your brother will liveagain. I am the One who brings people back to life. Anyone who believes in Me will keep on livingafter their body dies. And even Lazarus’ body will live again one day.”
Martha hurried back to her home to call Mary and tell her that Jesus had arrived and wantedto see her. Mary was sitting in the house, crying with her friends, but when she heard that Je-sus had come, she hurried out to meet Him and all the friends followed too.
Jesus asked Mary to take Him to the tomb where Lazaruslay . On the way to the hillside Jesus began to cry for Hisfriend Lazarus. When they came to the place, everyone
waited to see what Jesus would do. “Take the stone away,”He told the men. Jesus looked up and prayed. Everyonestood still, wondering what would happen next. Then in aloud voice, Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!”
After a tense moment of total silence, Lazarus suddenlywalked out of the grave. He was alive again! He still had thelong cloths wound around him so they took them off andtook him back home. That day, many people who had never
believed in Jesus changed their minds about Him. Theyknew that only God could bring a dead man back to life.
Can you imagine how happy Mary and Martha were to have their brother back with them again?
What an incredible experience for Lazarus!
Jesus has great power and showed during His lifetime that He can do anything. Nothing is toohard for Jesus. However, He does not often bring people back to life on this earth, but He
promises in the Bible (2 Timothy 2:11) that “We shall also live with Him.” This means that allthose who believe in Jesus and follow Him will live with Him in heaven after they die.

esus had a friend named Lazarus who lived with his two sisters, Mary
and Martha in Bethany.
One day, Lazarus became very sick. Mary and Martha knew that
Jesus could heal their brother, so they sent a message to Jesus,
asking Him to come and make Lazarus well again.
Now, Jesus loved Lazarus but when He heard the news, He didn’t go straight
away. Jesus knew that He was going to do something far more wonderful than
just heal an sick friend. However, while the sisters were waiting for Jesus to
come, Lazarus became gravely ill and eventually died. Mary and Martha were sad
and puzzled that Jesus did not come straight away. Lazarus’ body was wrapped in
clean cloth, placed in a cave and a huge stone rolled in front
of the entrance.
Mary and Martha went back home in deep sorrow. “If
only Jesus had come,” they kept saying. But Jesus knew
what was happening even though He was in another town.
After Lazarus had been dead for four days, Jesus and
His disciples arrived in Bethany. Martha heard that
Jesus had arrived in the village and ran to meet Him.
“Lord, if You had been here my brother would not have died,” she said. Jesus
told her, “Your brother will live again. I am the one who brings people back to
life. Anyone who believes in Me will keep on living after their body dies.”
Jesus asked Mary to take Him to the tomb where Lazarus lay. When He came
to the place, a crowd of people waited to see what Jesus would do. ‘Take the
stone away,’ He said. Jesus looked up and prayed. Then in a loud voice, He
shouted, “Lazarus, come out!’ After a moment of silence, Lazarus walked out of
the grave. He was alive again! They took Lazarus home and that day, many peo-
ple who saw the miracle, believed in Jesus. They knew that only God could bring
a dead man back to life.
