unbeliever?

What’s different about the deaths of a believer and an unbeliever?

Job 19:26

And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I

will see God…

Death

Death

What’s different about the deaths of a believer and an unbeliever?

Ecclesiastes 12:7

…and the dust returns to the

ground it came from, and the

spirit returns to God who gave it.

What’s different about the deaths of a believer and an unbeliever?Luke 16:22-23

The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s

side. The rich man also died and was buried. In

hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and

saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.

an unbeliever’s soul

a believer’s soul

Key Point #1

At death the bodies of all decay and the soul of a believer goes to

heaven while the soul of an unbeliever goes to hell.

How is the resurrection different for a believer and an unbeliever?Acts 24:15

…and I have the same hope in God as these men, that

there will be a resurrection of

both the righteous and the wicked.

How is the resurrection different for a believer and an unbeliever?

Revelation 20:13The sea gave up the dead that were in it,

and death and Hades gave up the dead that

were in them, and each person was

judged according to what he had done.

How is the resurrection different for a believer and an unbeliever?

1 Corinthians 15:52

For the trumpet will sound, the

dead will be raised

imperishable, and we will be

changed.

the body rises and is

reunited with the soul

How is the resurrection different for a believer and an unbeliever?

Philippians 3:20-21But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly

await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the

power that enables him to bring everything

under his control, will transform our lowly

bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

a believer’s body changes and is glorified like Jesus’ body

Key Point #2

Each person’s body will rise as a body that can never die again,

and the bodies of believers will be like Jesus’ glorious body.

How will life be different for unbelievers and believers after the resurrection?

Matthew 25:41Then he will say to

those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into

the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’ Then they will go away to

eternal punishment…

How will life be different for unbelievers and believers after the resurrection?

Revelation 20:15

If anyone’s name was not found written in the

book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

unbeliever’s body and soul suffer apart

from God in a lake of fire

How will life be different for unbelievers and believers after the resurrection?

Revelation 21:3-4And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them.

They will be his people, and God himself will be with them

and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more

death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of

things has passed away.”

How will life be different for unbelievers and believers after the resurrection?

Psalm 16:11

You have made known to me the

path of life; you will fill me with joy in

your presence, with eternal pleasures at

your right hand.

believer’s body and soul live

with Jesus in joy and happiness

Key Point #3Unbelievers will live apart from God in the continual pain and sorrow of hell, while believers

will live with God in the continual joy and happiness of

heaven.

How do we as believers look at death and the Last Day?

Philippians 1:23

I am torn between the two: I desire to depart

and be with Christ, which is better by far…

How do we as believers look at death and the Last Day?

Philippians 3:20

But our citizenship is in heaven. And

we eagerly await a Savior from there,

the Lord Jesus Christ…

How do we as believers look at death and the Last Day?

Revelation 22:20

He who testifies to these things

says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

Key Point #4We look forward to death as our

departure to be with the Lord, and we eagerly await the Last Day as the day when we will

enter our real home in heaven.

Your friend’s Christian mother passes away after a short illness. What do you say to your friend

that day or the day of the funeral? What do you say to your friend a month later?

Your classmate’s older brother dies in a car accident while

driving drunk. You know this person had nothing to do with

Jesus Christ. What do you say to your classmate that day? What

do you say a month later?

A person’s faith in Jesus Christ is his most important possession.

Why is this true?

To which of the following events is a Christian funeral

most similar? Why?• saying good-bye to a friend who is

moving far away• celebrating a birthday party with a

member of the family• not being able to go on a trip that you

had eagerly anticipated

Agree or Disagree?

Those who go to hell can at least take some comfort in being with

many of their friends.

Agree or Disagree?

The best way to imagine heaven is to remember your happiest moment on earth and multiply

that by a million.

Lesson

glorified body and soul will be united to live forever with Jesus in heaven.
