Lesson OverviewTodays lesson is about absolute value and the coordinate plane.
We will learn about both using our curtain-made coordinate plane.
What is Absolute Value? The absolute value of a number is the distance between thand zero on a number line.
Example: The absolute value of 5 is written as |5|. The absolute value of 5 is 5, bec
units away from zero.
Can you think of another number that is 5 units away from zero?
Do numbers and their opposites have the same absolute value? Explain.

Lesson Overview Part IITodays lesson is about absolute value and the coordinate plane.
We will learn about both using our curtain-made coordinate plane.
What is an ordered pair? An ordered pair is a pair of coordinates that tell us the location
Example: (x,y)
The first coordinate in an ordered pair is called the x-coordinate. It is horizontal.
The second coordinate in an ordered pair is called the y-coordinate. It is vertical.
To find or plot an ordered pair, start at the origin (0,0). First, find the x-coordinate, then
