Location of Industry.

• Before building a factory or opening a business, the best possible site has to be found for its location.

• There are several different factors that need to be taken into account when deciding on the best possible location.

• These can be divided into Physical Factors and Human and Economic factors

Transport.

A factory will need good road or rail links to bringin products or take them away.1. Is this Physical orHuman and economic?

Flat Land.

• Flat land allows for factories to be larger in size. • Its also easier to build buildings on flat land which keeps the cost down.1. Is this a Physical factor

Labour.

• A factory will need skilled workers living in the area in order to function.

• A factory needs to locate near towns and cities where goods will sell.

• A factory will always need a good supply of water and electricity in order to supply power.

• A factory will always need good land that is as cheap as possible. This will allow for a quicker profit. 1. Where do you feel land

would be cheaper, in the inner city or in the country side?

• Industrial development is encouraged in some areas and restricted in others by the Government of a country offering money to companies to locate their factories in certain areas.
