Page 2: Lesson 16 Confusion: The Great Dispersion

Read Genesis 10 - 11

Page 3: Lesson 16 Confusion: The Great Dispersion

The significance of Genesis 10-11 • Understand the development of the nations. • Understand the development of our modern society’s linguistic and

societal groups.

Secularism is dependent on a disconnect from the ancient past. When people see how they share roots in common with those mentioned in the scriptures, then they would have to face the God who designed and made them. They would see God’s place in history. History is being driven to accomplish God’s work rather than as the secularists demand that religion is a development along with ignorant men. They developed these religions in fear.

Ancient cultures never could look beyond their own culture. They would always brag of their accomplishments and speak excessively of them. Only in God’s Word do we find this detailed and yet honest revelation of the history of the world. God wants to link our modern generation to the ancient world for it is only then can we gain a full understanding of the Lord of history and His purposes among mankind.

We aim to explore three areas within Genesis 10 – 11.

1. How did the entire human race came about from Noah’s family? How did racism came about?

2. Dispersion of Noah’s family lineage across entire earth Why did it happen?

3. Did Dinosaurs co-exist with humans?

Who are Noah’s sons? Genesis 9:19 (ESV) • These three were the sons of Noah, and from these

the people of the whole earth were dispersed.

1. Shem2. Ham3. Japheth

Page 6: Lesson 16 Confusion: The Great Dispersion

Quick IntroductionShemShem was Noah's oldest son. Abraham's lineage came through Shem, and he is the father of all the Semitic races. (Actually the word "Semite" comes from the word Shem.) He is the ancestor of the Jews and Arabs, the Babylonians, Phoenicians, Assyrians and other peoples from the region of the eastern Mediterranean, as well as the yellow races of the far east. His lineage is traced in Genesis 10:21-31.

HamHam was the second of Noah's sons. His sons were Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan, and his descendants include the Ethiopians, Egyptians, Libyans, and the black African nations. Because Ham looked upon his father's nakedness, his son Canaan was cursed. Ham's family is listed in Genesis 10:6-20.

JaphethJapheth was Noah's youngest son. He was the father of seven sons, and the Greeks, the peoples of Europe - and all the lands they settled, such as America - are his descendants. Japheth helped Shem cover their father's nakedness when Noah became drunk. Japheth's family is listed in Genesis 10:2-5.

The genealogies of Genesis 5 and 11 have similarities.

1. Both mark off ten generations.

2. Both end by noting the three sons of the last person, Noah and Terah.

3. Genealogies are accurately self-references.

the flood?

The Evolution Theory

Genesis 4:17-22

Our forefathers built cities, herded livestock, played musical instruments, made tools of bronze and iron AND built an unsinkable boat.

Civilizations Babylon, Egypt, Greece, China, India and Americas were amazing advanced.

Question:Do you think Human Evolution Theory is true?

Page 13: Lesson 16 Confusion: The Great Dispersion

The Tower of BabelIn the ninth chapter of Genesis, God commands Noah and his sons to "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth" (9:1 NAS). On the fifth day of the creation of the Earth, God gave this command to the birds and fishes (Gen. 1:20-23). On the sixth day, God reiterated this command to the pinnacles of creation, man and woman (Gen. 1:26-28).

Humanity was to subjugate the untamed Earth by dispersing themselves.

Whereas God’s children during then wanted to build the tower to provide a common religious center as a rallying point, lest the people be scattered. The builders of the tower were in open defiance of God's command (Genesis 9:1) (53).

Page 14: Lesson 16 Confusion: The Great Dispersion

The Tower of Babel

Genesis 11:1-9

The Tower of Babel records how the wickedness of mankind again got out of order beckoning God to judge the earth. God provided grace by separating mankind into a multitude of groups. Each language group no doubt was based on a family. From Genesis 10 we find 70 people groups.

Question: 1. Why did God judge man as

unrighteous in this case? 2. Why is a rebellion possible?

What Happened to Dinosaurs? Did they co-exist with mankind?

Page 16: Lesson 16 Confusion: The Great Dispersion

What Happened to Dinosaurs? Did they co-exist with mankind?

God created all the marine and flying creatures on Day 5 such asplesiosaurs and pterodactyls plus land animals on Day 6 which included dinosaurs. Human and dinosaur footprints are found together in Texas and in Turkmenia, formerly part of the Soviet Union, plus other places.

Because of Adam’s sin, the animals started killing each other as violence and death enter the earth. Dinosaurs got into the ark with Noah.

Dinosaurs eventually died out like many other species of animals since the Creation. The world after the Flood was much different than before. The environmental conditions, with the sparse vegetation, the destruction of the pre-Flood vapor canopy, and the temperature extremes during the ensuing Ice Age would have caused many animal types to become extinct, a process which continues today.

What Happened to Dinosaurs? Did they co-exist with mankind?

Biblical mentions of dinosaurs (recorded as dragons):

The Biblical writers, inspired by God, wrote about creatures described by the Hebrew word tanniyn which is translated “dragons” in over 20 passages. They are depicted as dwelling in different types of habitats and as being of various sizes (Isaiah 34:13; Micah 1:8; Malachi 1:3).

Modern translators of the Bible choose not to use the word “dragon” because modern man has never seen a creature that fits the description of some of the creatures mentioned in the Bible. So they translate the word tanniyn as jackal, whale, serpent, etc. but the Hebrew word means “dragon” or “monster,” not jackal.

Conclusion

1 Corinthians 15:39 All flesh is not the same: People have one flesh, animals have another, birds and fish another.

1. We are of one blood – The Bible never talks about races but about tribes and nations. There is only one race – Human Race. Interbreeding within smaller groups produce dominant characteristics unique to each group and skin shade differs due to pigmentation from melanin. We originate from the same color.

Page 19: Lesson 16 Confusion: The Great Dispersion

Conclusion

2. Human race was meant to be dispersed through Noah’s sons (Shem, Ham and Japheth) and nations to be formed.

Modern civilizations and humanity are descended from these three men. God separated the people to different lands andlanguages to frustrate their self-destructive plans. Determined tostay faithful to His covenant, this was God's only mercifulalternative in response to the tower.

Psalm 33:10 (ESV) The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He frustrates the plans of the peoples.

Page 20: Lesson 16 Confusion: The Great Dispersion

Conclusion

3. Dinosaurs did NOT live millions of years ago; they DID live beside people; they DID go on Noah’s Ark; they are mentioned in the Bible: they DID live after the Flood (Job 40-41).

There is MUCH evidence that they have lived up until quite recently. God CREATED all animal types. Dinosaurs did NOT evolve, and there is really NO mystery about what happened to them.
