Sentence structureThe placement of adjectives in German is usually as follows:
subject + verb + adjective + nounTo understand this better, see the following example with the two
English sentences:
1) "The green tree." and 2) "The tree is green."the tree = der Baum
is = ist(dict.sein)green =grn
1)Der grne Baum.
2)Der Baum ist grn.
ConjugationIn the following example, you can see that when an adjective is placed in front of a noun, it needs to be
adjusted to the gender of said noun.In the example of the adjectivegrn ("green"), the conjugations are:grner(with a male noun),grne
(with a female noun),grnes (with a neutral noun) andgrne (with all plural forms).
grner Baum ("green tree", male)
grne Wassermelone ("green watermelon", female)grnes Gras ("green grass", neutral)
grne Hgel("green hills", plural)
