  • Key Findings With overall prevalence rates of 35.8% for lifetime use and

    18.4% for past-30-day use, alcohol is the most commonlyused drug among Leon County students.

    After alcohol, students reported marijuana (20.0% lifetimeand 9.8% past-30-day) and cigarettes (14.5% lifetime and5.4% past-30-day) as the most commonly used drugs.

    18.4% of high school students reported blacking out afterdrinking on one or more occasions.

    For other ATOD categories, past-30-day prevalence rangesfrom 2.2% for over-the-counter drugs to 0.1% for heroin.

  • Key Findings In Leon County, past-30-day alcohol use was reported

    at 18.4%, compared to 20.5% across the statewidesample.

    Binge drinking continued to decrease, from 14.8% in2010 to 11.2% in 2012 to 8.7% in 2014.

    Past-30-day marijuana use decreased slightly from 2010to 2012 (from 13.9% to 13.6%), and decreased moresubstantially to 9.8% in 2014.

    15.8% of high school students have ridden in a car witha driver who was under the influence of alcohol, and21.2% have ridden with a driver under the influence ofmarijuana.

  • Key Findings In Leon County, 7.1% of surveyed students reported

    the use of any illicit drug other than marijuana in thepast 30 days, compared to 7.5% across the statewidesample.

    Past-30-day inhalant use decreased from 3.7% in 2010to 2.0% in 2014.

    Past-30-day Rx pain reliever use was reported at 2.1%,the same as the statewide survey.

    Among middle school students, 2.4% reported the useof inhalants in the past 30 days, a rate higher than anyother illicit drug (except marijuana).

  • Key Findings In Leon County, prevalence rates for Taking a Handgun to

    School (0.3%), Attempting to Steal a Vehicle (1.6%) and BeingArrested (2.7%) are 3.0% or less.

    Higher prevalence rates were reported for GettingSuspended (10.6%) and Attacking Someone with Intent toHarm (8.8%).

    In Leon County, 28.3% of students have been sociallybullied, 12.1% have been physically bullied, and 6.8% havebeen cyber bullied.

    4.3% of students have belonged to a gang, and 2.6% ofhigh school students are currently gang members.

    improvement: Middle school students reported the lowest rates

    of protection for the School Rewards for ProsocialInvolvement (56%), Community Rewards for ProsocialInvolvement (52%) and Religiosity (57%) scales.

    High school students reported the lowest rates ofprotection for the Family Opportunities for ProsocialInvolvement (62%) and Family Rewards for ProsocialInvolvement (62%) scales.

  • Key Findings Risk factor prevalence ratesopportunities for

    improvement: Middle school students reported the highest rates

    of risk for the Transitions and Mobility (58%),Community Disorganization (43%) and Lack ofCommitment to School (43%) scales.
