LEO, MIA AND THECHRISTMAS TREE

Not too long to go untilChristmas and it was freezing cold.Dad wanted to go with Mia, Leo and

Rabbit to choose a Christmas treefrom the forest. Fairy had nestled

down in Mia’s hood.

But first some dabs of creamhad to be applied to Leo’s and Mia’s

noses and foreheads to protect themagainst the cold. When Rabbit complained,

a dab of cream was put on his nose and evenFairy got one, secretly from Mia.

There were many beautiful fir trees in the forest. Rabbit chose one which was so high the children

couldn’t even see the treetop any more. „That’s a true rabbit tree!“, he insisted.

„Pity, it is almost as high as our house“, Leo replied.

The kids went back and forth in order to have agood look at all the trees. And it seemed as if the trees

themselves were trying hard to look even bigger, more beautiful and if possible even greener when

they passed them by. All wanted to celebrateChristmas with the children.

Mia had been running a bit ahead.And suddenly she saw, right at the back

and almost hidden in a corner, another tree. It wasn’t too high. And not as straight as the

others. And its greenness was not quiteregular – in some places it looked lighter

and in other places a little bit darker.But Mia liked the tree at once.

„This is a real fairy tree“,Fairy whispered to Mia. „Oops“,

the little tree said. “How nice thatyou’re looking at me! I had almost losthope that somebody would want me.

And I was really afraid I would have tostay behind, all alone again.”

„I can’t believe it“, Rabbit said joining them with Leo, „A talking tree!“

„Always the case with fairy trees“, replied Fairy. „We’ll take it!“, decided Leo and Mia.

„You won’t regret it!“, the little treesaid happily.

„Are you sure you really want this tree?“Dad was surprised when Leo and Mia asked

him to buy it. „Absolutely!“, Mia exclaimed. And Rabbit murmured to Leo: Ok, that’s fine with me.

Although it is not a real rabbit tree.“

At home, Mia and Leo made littlestars and angels from gold and silverpaper for the tree. Rabbit hung a toycarrot on a branch. And Fairy wavedher wand and made some light and

glittering stardust descend onthe little tree.

„This is the most beautiful Christmastree we have ever had“, Mum said when

they had finished. “You made a very good choice there! And your stars are really

sparkling!“ „True“, Rabbit said.“But it is the little carrot that adds this

very extra touch!” „Well, well –so I am a real rabbit tree now, am I?“

the little tree whispered. And Rabbit smiled broadly.
