Rack Focus

This process refers to the changing of focus during the shot, shifting the image in focus from the foreground to the background or vice versa.

The movement can be small or more pronounced, but if the depth of field is shallow it is more noticeable.

The technique is used to draw attention to something in the frame or to creating further meaning.

Preliminary Task

Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue.

This task should demonstrate… match on action shot/reverse shot the 180-degree rule.

You should also carefully consider your framing.
