The search is on to find Leicester’s sporting heroes

The annual Leicester Sports Trust Sports Awards 2013 are now open for nominations following another glorious year of sporting success. Thereissomuchtocelebrateandreflectuponfollowinganotheryearofmemorablesportingtriumphs. Leicester Riders Basketball Club’s had their most successful season to date, winning an historic treble. Leicester Tigers reached their ninth successive Premiership Final and recorded their tenth Premiership title and Leicester City’s went so close to secure promotion back to the Premier League reachingtheendofseasonChampionshipsemi-finalplay-offs. The awards will recognise the sporting achievements of amateur sports teams and individuals from the city. This includes the dedicated volunteers who give up their spare time to coach teams or individuals and those unsung heroes who work tirelessly behind the scenes to help a club run smoothly. There are 10 categories and all nominees must live, attend school, volunteer or represent a club, within the city boundaries of Leicester. The Leicester Sports Awards focuses on the achievements gained from September 2012 – 31st August 2013. Tonominatesomeone,simplyfillintheformoverleafandreturnittotheaddressprintedorvisitwww.leicester.gov.uk/lsptsportsawards and complete the online application. All nominees must live, or represent a Leicester City based club. There are 10 categories and all nominees must live, attend school, volunteer or represent a club within the city boundaries of Leicester. The closing date for entries is 5pm on Friday, 1st November. All shortlisted nominees will be invited to a presentation evening on Monday, 9th December at the Welford Road Stadium, home of Leicester Tigers.

Young Sportsperson

of the Year

Aged 18 under on August 31st 2013, this award is for an individual who hasinthelast12monthsmadesignificantprogressinthefieldoftheir sport, exceeded expectations in their sporting performance or made a big difference to a team.

Disabled SportsPerson of the Year

Thisawardisforanindividual,aged18oroverwhohashadasignificantimpact on disability sport, overcome barriers to excel in sport or acted as a role model for other disabled people.

Young Disabled Sports Person

of the Year

Aged 18 or under on 31st August 2013, this award is for an individual who hashadasignificantimpactondisabilitysport,overcomebarrierstoexcel in sport or acted as a role model for other disabled people.

Coach of the Year

Thisawardisforaqualifiedcoach(paidorvoluntary),aged18oroverwhohasinthelast12monthsmadeasignificantimpactintheirsport.Wearelooking for a coach who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in the pursuit of excellence in their sport.

Volunteer of the Year

This award is for an individual, who has spent the last 12 months demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment to a sport or club or made a strong impact on a club or organisation through volunteering.

Leicester Gets Active 4 Life Award

This award is designed to encourage young people and adults, aged 14 and over and living in the City, to make changes that introduce more regular activity into their lives. The award is aimed at participants who have found thebenefitsofsportandphysicalactivityandthusmadeasignificantdifference to their health and wellbeing.

Clubof the Year

This award is for a club that has achieved some, or all, of the following in thelast12months.GainedorattainedNationalGoverningBody(NGB)accreditation, demonstrated successful partnerships with local schools and community organisations, evidenced commitment to volunteer recruitment.

Team of the Year

Thisawardisforateam,whohasinthelast12months,madesignificantprogresswithintheirsportingfield,exceededexpectationsintheirsportingperformance or made a big difference within the club.

SSCO Award

An individual or group who have shown outstanding achievement in any area of Physical Education & School Sport. We will look for nominations that illustrate the values of Excellence and Courage. Again this award is open to nominations of young people and others in our schools who work unselfishlytodrivePEandSchoolSportforward.

Sportsperson of the Year

This award is for an individual, who has achieved success at a national or international levels, exceeded expectations in their sporting performance ormadeasignificantdifferencetoateam.

As Chairman of the Sports Partnership Trust, I am delighted to present Leicester’s 2013 Amateur Sports Awards. The awards are set to bring the city sporting community together to celebrate another great year for sport, with recognition going to teams and individuals who have demonstrated sporting success and those unsung heroes who work tirelessly in their communities to deliver sport and physical activity.
