Thank you from of our Legacy love-filled hearts to
all of the families and friends who participated in
our Labor Day Car Parade. The residents and staff
loved every minute of it. All the cars and trucks
were decorated so patriotically and really put a true
“America Proud” smile on everyone’s face. It means
so much to all of us that you take the time to come
and show love and support for those you miss so
much along with a great show of your American
pride. We are all so very grateful and
appreciative—Thank you!!

THE MONTH:
EMERALD
DEMERS
Emerald was born to Adam and Ursula Jodis on February 23, 1918 in Jackson, Michigan. She had 5 brothers and 2 sisters. She grew up in a part of Jackson known as "Frog Town" off Elm St. between Page Ave and High St. Emerald graduated from St. Marys High School in 1936. She then worked for a period of time before she was married. She met the love of her life (Salem DeMers, a French Canadian who became a United States Citizen at the age of 7) in the spring of 1937 through a mutual friend. They were married on September 10, 1939. Salem, at that time was working for Kelsey Hayes in Jackson, then soon after transferred to the Detroit plant, then a year later acquired a job with Chrysler. For 10 years the couple saved for their dream home, which they built in 1950. Emerald and Salem moved in to their dream home in Ferndale, Michigan in October of that same year. Emerald and Salem were never blessed with children, so they so loved and embraced their many nieces and nephews. Salem worked for Chrysler Corporation most of his adult life and Emerald was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and had an amazing talent for decorating. Her home looked like a picture out of country living magazine. For many years Emerald and Salem had poodles-I guess you could say they were like their kids. Emerald and Salem never missed a family function. They attended every one of their nieces and nephews and "Great's" weddings, graduations, communions, and holiday celebrations. They often would get in the car and drive to Jackson just to visit or for celebration, but ALWAYS ended up back home in the evening late, to lie their heads down on their own pillows. Emerald lost the love of her life in June 1993. For many years she contin-ued to maintain her home and beautiful yard even though she NEVER drove a car. She is strongly devoted to her Catholic faith. Emerald will be 103 years old in February and she always said she would live as long as her grandmother did, which was 103.

DILIGENTLY AND STAYING STRONG AND SUPPORTIVE
THROUGH THESE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND TRYING TIMES
WE CONTINUE TO NAVIGATE DAILY. EACH AND EVERY ONE
OF THE STAFF ARE DOING AN OUTSTANDING JOB AND
STEPPING UP WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH. PLEASE
KNOW HOW APPRECIATED EVERYTHING IS THAT YOU DO
EVERY DAY AND THAT WE COULDN’T DO IT WITHOUT YOU.
CONGRATULATIONS STAFF—YOU ARE THE BEST!!
